Nick and Greg are in love. Martin is King of the Dorks. And Nick and Greg are in love!

Greg is cute. Dirty!Greg is very cute. Dirty!Greg asserting himself so that dorky old Gil and Brass don't brush him off is super-mega-turbo-cute, and I want him. Except then Nick would be left without, and I couldn't do that to poor Nick. Because they’re in love, and the writers so know it! Yay!

Also? Martin is the biggest dork ever, and is nearly as cute as Greg. Even with the still-too-short hair. And Danny is starting to win his way back into my affections, so all-in-all it was a good couple of hours of TV.

All for Our Country

- Is it just me, or are Gil's pre-credit quips getting less quippy and more... annoyingly oblique? "Not paranoid enough." Huh?

- Nicky is so skinny this season. I want to feed him soup. Also, he now joins Brass as a member of the "calls Warrick 'Rick'" club. Which is interesting to me, if only because later in the ep, Brass calls Nick "Nicky" (in his mean little sideswipe at Nick when he and Gil are arguing and what was that all about? Never mind, I'll get to that), which is generally a Gil thing. Nick and Brass have a lot of character similarities, and they have a much easier relationship than Nick and Gil do. None of which I feel like going into right now- I just thought the nickname thing from both of them was cute.

- Okay, Cat's little idea of the team all living together, and Sara's "Ew, no, not Gil" moment made me laugh, but their case joins the body-in-a-bag, the body-in-a-chemical-drum, the cannibal cheerleader, and a few others as cases I never, ever want to see again. Ewwwww. (It was amusing to see Sara call that dude "bitch," though. Ha!)

- the new ballistics techie (Rich?) was very cute (not Nick, Greg or Archie cute, but very cute still), but I want Bobby back. He and Nick and their dueling drawls (and flirting) were very cute.

- who is this phone-techie chick flinging herself at Warrick? She is not one with the subtle, that's for sure. And Warrick goes for it, the slut. He definitely has more sex than the rest of the team (except Nick and Greg! ‘Cause they’re so in love!).

- yay Archie! Now that Greg is moving up on the food chain, Archie is the new Greg! Archie appearance every week, please!

- I'm not a Gil fangirl, everyone knows that, but he does have one mannerism that I find really cute (cute is apparently my watchword for the night). When he's asking suspects to cooperate, like when he says, "Well, we need to see all your shoes," to the judge and co., he bats his eyelashes. Snerk. You charmer, you.

- So what about Owen Wilson-valet-guy from last week? He talks to Nicky, runs to the media, blabs, and vanishes? Has he disappeared into the Continuity Closet, never to be heard from again? All that Nick-pain and I don’t even get to see the guy die horribly?

- This cops vs. CSIs thing- is this going to be a running theme? The fight between Gil and Brass seemed meaner and angrier than usual. What set them off so fiercely? And then they just... made up. It seemed off to me. Brass seemed very defensive- it's not like he's never dealt with bad cops before, and that jab at Nick was unlike him. And Gil is usually "Investigate Things from Every Boring Angle Guy," not "Cling to My One Lame Idea Guy." Very odd. And that bad cop, Gil's new nemesis, is he going to be a recurring character? I'm not entirely surprised that Gil is a good shot, since he's an obsessive perfectionist, but still, it was a little jarring to see him with a gun. I'm not sure how I felt about that whole plotline and its accompanying vibe- it wasn't bad, exactly, but it didn't seem very CSI to me. It felt like it wandered in from one of the 200 other cop shows on CBS this season. Hm.

- Greg! Yay Greg! Poor Greg, sent off to hunt for bottles. I loved his expression when they all turned to stare at him before sending him on the hunt ("What? No, what? Is there something on my face?"), and then he looked so hot and unhappy (and cute) , all stuck with the footwork like that. But he did it! He found the big neon sign piece of evidence! And he dug in his heels when Gil tried to shoo him away like a big jerk, and got all assertive! And was right! Woo! Go Greg! And the covered-in-dirt look was very cute. Very. And then he and Nicky hang out and bond while they work, in a totally random and adorable moment. Awww. So, so nice to see. That scene balanced out every bit of dead-in-the-tub ookiness. Geek boys in love, tra la tra la. (Uh oh! More evidence of brainwashing! The show is brainwashing me!)

Revelations

- The opening scene, with Father Henry walking through the dark streets, covered in blood, while the lovely “chanting and boy alto” music plays, had a nice Brimstone feel to it. That's never a bad thing in my book. The episode as a whole had a rather elegaic vibe to it (because of the dying priest thing, I suppose) and the ending to the case was quite sad, but I thought it worked. Overall, this episode was a lot more enjoyable than last week for me. Very nice acting from nearly everyone, too.

- random trivia- St. Germaine (the patron of Father Henry's church) is the patron saint of the abandoned and the abused, especially children. So a nice, slightly meta choice for the show, I think.

- Yay, John Diehl! Not a big part, and not in it until the third act, but still, it's always nice to see him.

- Danny is defensive about priests, isn't he? And shoplifting alcohol in fifth grade? Oh, Danny. Okay, I'm still a little mad at him for his Martin-mistreatment late last season, but this episode went a long way to winning him back into my favor.

- so it's been two months since the shooting, and Sam still hasn't started therapy. I know it doesn't do any good if the patient doesn't want to be there and that it isn't a magic pill, but I still think Jack should have talked her into it before she killed two suspects. She's coming apart at the seams, and she's just too stubborn (and scared) to admit it. I hate seeing it, even though I'm not a fan of the character. Poor kid. I'm glad Vivian was honest when Sam asked her if she thought she was ready to be in the field yet- she dealt with Sam so much better than Jack did. She was sympathetic, but still firm and honest. Sam does not get any coddling from Vivian (and Sam does not appreciate that, but she needs it). Less personal baggage helps, but also I think Viv is just a better leader. (Jack has not regained his lost ground like Danny has, obviously.)

- Of course Jack is a lapsed Catholic. Guilt, guilt! More guilt for Jack! Feh.

- Danny lying in wait in the back of the church and then springing out at the kid was amusing, as was the image of him as the Stay-in-School Enforcer, putting the Fear of Danny Taylor in potential drop-outs. Snerk.

- Okay, still mad at Jack, but his joke to Vivian (while they waited for the bishop) about needing a new desk made me smile.

- Martin's suits, dude. Someone help that boy. I did notice that his hair is already starting to grow out though, so whew. In next week's TV Guide, there's an itty-bitty pic of Jack and Martin, and Martin's hair is slightly longer yet and spiky (and he has stubble!), so fingers crossed that it's actually a pic from the ep and not just any random older shot.

- Martin and Danny so did not approve when Father Mazzoni (?) reached over and took Theresa's hand. Danny looked especially unhappy. No leeway for priests who stray from those two.

- Martin's "smooth dismissal" comment to Danny also made me giggle, because dude, no kidding. And then the prison teasing! Hee! Yeah Danny, you should be nicer to Martin, but I still thought it was cute. And Martin! Interning at a prison to teach accounting! He's the biggest dork in the world! It was completely random (accounting? the hell?), but whatever, the writers obviously have no clue what they're doing with him. He makes Nick and Greg look like Warrick-the-Smooth in comparison. I love him so.

- I loved the ending of Father Henry's plotline. Hector Elizondo was a gift to the character, as he always is, and he made me cry. He even made me stop being annoyed with Jack for a while. Of course, Jack had to go screw it up by running off to hold hands with Sam, but for a few minutes I liked him again. Thank you, Father Henry.

If it wasn't for you, I would never have had my eyes opened to the love that is Nick/Greg, and that would have been a real shame. Seriously. I already loved CSI (and yeah, I'm sorry, I do have a thing for Gil ^_~), but the possibility of a Nicky and Greg OTP makes it that much better. Thank you!

Yay! She sees the cuteness! *g* Weren't they great last night? I especially liked the constant intercut shots of the two of them in the lab/ evidence hunting montage, and the bonding time in the lab after Greg's triumph. Nick was so proud of his guy, aw.

Seriously. I already loved CSI (and yeah, I'm sorry, I do have a thing for Gil ^_~)

Oops, I'll stop picking on him then. ;) Seriously, though, I like him as a character (although I think he has some problems with his leadership style, but it's not like that was ever really one of his goals, as far as I know), and I think he has some moments of cuteness (like the lash-batting thing), but he just doesn't do it for me (and I hate the non-thing with Sara). I find it highly amusing that he's apparently so kinky, though. It's always the quiet ones.

*sigh* I only wish they had more screentime like that. What is up with nudging Nick out of the storyline so often lately? Sheesh.

Oops, I'll stop picking on him then. ;)
No, no, by all means, go ahead! That was more me coming to you, hat in hand, penitent.

(and I hate the non-thing with Sara)
Argh. You're telling me. I like Sara, but I don't like Gil/Sara. I'd love to see him go back to the dominatrix, though. I loved her, and I loved the way she and Catherine interacted.

I find it highly amusing that he's apparently so kinky
*LOL* Fit him perfectly, I think.

Archie is the new Greg!

He is. He's like the new black, only cuter and I really hope we get to see him being Tech Guy now that Greg's graduated up to Hot-Yet-Nerdy Investigator Guy.

I loved Sara's Gil diss. Actually, I just loved everything about Sara tonight. So, so lovely, and bringing the snark with the college boy. Very nice. More than made up for the grossest scene on this show to date. That bathtub after they got rid of the body was way worse than even the meat grinder episode.

I was a little disappointed in the whole 'dumb-ass cops with attitudes' theme tonight. It was a bit too NYPD Blue, with the cops downstairs hating the detectives upstairs. I mean I know it happens, but...yeah, lame. Brass cracks me up, though. I just love him. Except when he's dissing Nick.

I think I'm the only person who's not surprised that Nick's old college friend Kenny was just a plot device to get Nick to emote last week. Because Lord knows we need more reasons for him to get all teary so the fangirls can feel justified in tormenting him.

I digress. Danny's still on my list, but he was more subdued tonight and I really liked his tough love scenes with those boys so I'm starting to warm up to him again. And I just can't help wanting Martin to have him, because he gets that adorable shy grin whenever Danny flirts with him, and it's so boyish and lovely and I want him to be happy.

I also want him to make some sense as a character, though, and the writers are not helping in that department. Accounting? They're killing me.

Oh, me too (and great description for Greg, btw). Pity about Bobby moving on, though. At least the new guy is nice to look at (I'm so shallow).

Actually, I just loved everything about Sara tonight.

This was my favorite Sara ep in ages. I love her in full geek-girl mode. Smart, funny, snarky, pretty, checking out the firefighters, dissing Gil... it was the most fun she's been in far too long. The case, though. Euch. That was vile.

ITA on the "dumb-ass cops with attitudes" theme- it seemed OOC for the show, which has generally had a pretty pro-cop view (yeah, the Sheriff is a jerk, but he's a politician). I don't know, it just seemed like the writers were short a subplot and reached into the TV cliche grabbag. And the Gil/Brass fight flared up out of nowhere and vanished back into nowhere (because of how well they know each other or something?). Weird.

I do love Brass though. He's just so wry, and he and Gil have a great rapport. Albert, too- I'm a big Albert fan. It's always good to see characters who work well with Gil but don't pine away for his approval. Gil even said he was wrong and apologized to Brass last night! I was amazed.

I think I'm the only person who's not surprised that Nick's old college friend Kenny was just a plot device to get Nick to emote last week. Because Lord knows we need more reasons for him to get all teary so the fangirls can feel justified in tormenting him.

Snerk. Wait, do you mean, Nick isn't a big soppy mess who crumbles into tears (and sometimes insanity) at the first opportunity? Huh, go figure. Anyway. I wasn't really surprised, given the show's record with minor characters and character continuity, but I was still kind of hoping that he'd matter a little more. I mean, what was the point of that whole "Nick screws up again" plotline, other than a clumsy way to prolong the show by moving the crime scene? Did we really need another "Nick screws up in some extremely rookie way" plot? Stop writing him like an idiot, guys. He isn't one.

And I just can't help wanting Martin to have him, because he gets that adorable shy grin whenever Danny flirts with him, and it's so boyish and lovely and I want him to be happy.

Hee! Yes, exactly! I'm still not through being mad at Danny, but this episode helped a lot, what with the Martin flirting and the casual revelation of more sad details of his past. Big dramatic bludgeoning revelations lose me quickly, but just tossing stuff like "teen alcoholic" out there and moving on works for me. Subtle is good.

So yeah, Danny's still in the doghouse, but he makes Martin happy, so as long as he keeps that up...

The accounting thing amused me terribly. So random and so geeky. I like [livejournal.com profile] carlton97's idea that the writers use a dart board to plan this stuff. Either that or one of those "cootie catcher" things from fifth grade. Next week we'll find out that Martin is destined to have a pink minivan and live in a castle with Nick Rhodes.

Argh! I overslept when taking my nap tonight, and missed WaT. Do they show it again any time during the week? It sounds like a good ep *pouts*

Of course Jack is a lapsed Catholic. Guilt, guilt! More guilt for Jack! Feh.

Heh. This amused me so.

Oh no! And I stupidly didn't even tape it, because I was still annoyed about last week and thought I'd wait for the rerun, or I'd send it to you. Darn it. I don't know of any repeats yet (unfortunately- I wish they'd repeat Joan so I could get the pilot, too), but it'll be on again eventually. Not a lot of Danny/Martin this week (though there was a little, and it was sweet), but the case was good, I thought. Plus, Hector Elizondo. Always a good thing.

[identity profile] castalianspring.livejournal.com 2003-10-06 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
S'ok, I'm sure I'll get it eventually. If there weren't all these threats of lawsuits, I'd hop onto Kazaa and download it. Darn those lawyers...
