I really wish CBS were showing these repeats in order, because it lessens the impact of Danny's sudden overtures towards Martin when you see them come after the guys' playful, comfortable interaction in later episodes like "Victory for Humanity," instead of after those tense early weeks. His official story is that Jack told him to play nice. Smart boy- that has a nicer ring to it than "I'm tired of pulling your pigtails, since that obviously isn't working, so let's see if you go for my sexy smirk and bedroom eyes." And whaddya know, Martin does.

carolinecrane,
I really love their interaction in this episode. Danny keeps tossing nicknames at Martin ("Fitzy," "my man") and rachets up the flirty charm he uses so well. Martin isn't sure what to make of this (his expression when he first lands in San Diego is very cute- "Okay, where's the pod?"), but gradually he relaxes more than we've seen up to this point. Interesting reaction, that. Also interesting is that fact that a relaxed Martin is a vulnerable Martin; he admits that he fumbled the interview with Amalia (not that he could hide it), he admits that he has relationship issues, and he mentions his father, albeit obliquely. Danny's reaction? Trust me, it'll be fine, you're doing okay. Just what Martin needs to hear. This is the start to a beautiful friendship, at last (and eventually more, tra la, tra la. Slowly. But slow can be even better, right?).
Jack is quite the matchmaker, too. I love his satisfied expression when Danny does his, "he took a little breaking in, but he's a good guy," bit. Good plan, really- get the boys off their home turf and away from everyone else, and they'll naturally turn to each other. Well played, Jack.
DANNY: Imagine that. Keeping two wives in the dark for that long.
MARTIN: I know. I can't date two women for a month without blowing my cover.
It really doesn't surprise me that Martin isn't smooth enough to pull that off. Knowing him, he'd just end up with two girlfriends who think he's gay instead of one. How lucky that with Danny, he'll never have to worry about that.
Great music cue when Danny and Martin are watching Patrick's car get hauled out of the water. They stand there, side by side in their matching suits (and they both looked particularly natty this episode), while we hear "I'm on the outside/ I'm looking in/ I can see through you/ see your true colors..." Aw, be patient, Danny; you'll get through his walls if you take it slowly. You've made a good start already. Very nice Smallvillian use of a pop song. Why yes, I can turn anything into slashability. Why do you ask? ;)
Oh, and Danny with the kid? Absolutely adorable (and a bit sad).
So, someone's writing fic from this episode, right? Right?

A friend is convinced he's a brain-sucking alien, sent by his people to use his sexiness to distract humanity long enough to be conquered. She's a big Colin Farrell fan.

Date: 2003-08-01 08:00 pm (UTC)And Danny and Martin are so in love. I'm always amazed at how slashy this show is, considering that it's a mainstream law-enforcement drama (and it's an excellent one by any standard, even without the wonderful slashiness). They sizzle with chemistry. Oh, TPB try to convince us that Martin has a little crush on Sam by having him half-heartedly flirt with her occasionally, but then they wreck it by having he and Danny smile fondly, gaze longingly, touch each other and generally act a hundred times happier and more comfortable around each other than anyone else. Because they're friends and coworkers. Not because they're thoroughly smitten with each other, oh no. ;) And conversations like this one (http://www.livejournal.com/users/ealgylden/11294.html) are perfectly normal between friends and coworkers who aren't smitten (the team was being investigated by IA and thought they might get fired- CBS hasn't repeated that episode yet, so I still don't have it on tape, grr). I have a number of the episodes on tape, if you'd like to see some of the slashy goodness. Just say the word.
Jack/Danny? I'm getting Stargate flashbacks now *g* Can I handle two OTPs with the same names? Heh.
Nah, you're safe. While Stargate Jack/Danny are perfect for each other and will live happily ever after (hey, I'm a romantic), on WaT it's definitely Danny/Martin. There are people who slash Jack- we call them crazy people. ;) He's very straight. But, and here's a funny Stargate coincidence for you, Jack and Sam are a canonical couple, of sorts- he's married (and her boss), but they had an affair at some point in the past and aren't really over it yet.
Wow, sorry, that's a really long answer to your wee little question. I just love talking about this show! :)

These two sound so great! I just adore slashy cop shows. I may have to tune in next Thursday.

That's very generous! I could pop a blank tape in the mail for you, if you're able to make copies.

Oh, ok! I was a bit confused, and someone thought Jack and Martin were the first and last names of the same person. This makes more sense. Still, two shows with a Jack, a Danny, and a Sam. What are the odds? :)

Big time. They probably thought it was "cute." And I know parents like that in RL, and all I can think is, "your kids are never going to forgive you for that name."
Let me check with my techie sister and her techie fella if they have a double VCR set-up, which I think they do. I did until recently, when one of my VCRs decided it was time to explode in a shower of pretty little sparks. So at the moment I'm unable to dub tapes myself, but I think the techie twosome are able to. If not, I can just toss my copies in the mail. It's simple enough either way. :)

Ok, thanks! Either way is fine by me :)
Thinking of you
Date: 2003-08-01 07:51 am (UTC)Yes, please. I'll read anything. Though there was that flight attendant crack from Fitzy to Danny at the end there. :-) (Just playing devil's advocate.)

Camouflage! They saw Sam sitting close by at her desk, and not wanting to get picked on, hid all their newfound mushiness under a blanket of guy-speak. They were just practicing careful misdirection, yup. (Your devil's advocating is always welcome- it keeps me on my toes and it helps remind me that not everyone instantly thinks "Danny and Martin aresoinlove!!!" Though I don't know whyever not... *g*)
Re: Thinking of you
Date: 2003-08-02 01:08 pm (UTC)Camouflage? Ah. :-) Or perhaps also camouflage on Danny's part so Fitzy doesn't suspect anything yet?
Re: Thinking of you
Date: 2003-08-03 07:04 am (UTC)Yeah, actually, I tend to think that was it. I mean, yes, I think they were doing a lot of flirting in this ep (hey, you know me), and yes, if Martin had shown up at Danny's door looking pounceable, Danny would have been tempted. But this is so early in their relationship; their friendship is really new and untried, and it wasn't that long ago that they were still biting at each other (and not in the good way). So I do think it was too soon for anything to have happened. Martin's not going to be that easy to catch. I don't think Danny would have risked sending him running by making a move too early. Better to make friends and flirt and slowly tame him, and if he looks suspicious or nervous deflect him with a joke or a flight attendant, than pounce and lose him altogether.

Sounds like it makes sense. Who knows? Maybe Danny will be the fallback for Martin this new season.
Did love Martin's comment about the not being able to date two women at once.
