I really wish CBS were showing these repeats in order, because it lessens the impact of Danny's sudden overtures towards Martin when you see them come after the guys' playful, comfortable interaction in later episodes like "Victory for Humanity," instead of after those tense early weeks. His official story is that Jack told him to play nice. Smart boy- that has a nicer ring to it than "I'm tired of pulling your pigtails, since that obviously isn't working, so let's see if you go for my sexy smirk and bedroom eyes." And whaddya know, Martin does.

carolinecrane,
I really love their interaction in this episode. Danny keeps tossing nicknames at Martin ("Fitzy," "my man") and rachets up the flirty charm he uses so well. Martin isn't sure what to make of this (his expression when he first lands in San Diego is very cute- "Okay, where's the pod?"), but gradually he relaxes more than we've seen up to this point. Interesting reaction, that. Also interesting is that fact that a relaxed Martin is a vulnerable Martin; he admits that he fumbled the interview with Amalia (not that he could hide it), he admits that he has relationship issues, and he mentions his father, albeit obliquely. Danny's reaction? Trust me, it'll be fine, you're doing okay. Just what Martin needs to hear. This is the start to a beautiful friendship, at last (and eventually more, tra la, tra la. Slowly. But slow can be even better, right?).
Jack is quite the matchmaker, too. I love his satisfied expression when Danny does his, "he took a little breaking in, but he's a good guy," bit. Good plan, really- get the boys off their home turf and away from everyone else, and they'll naturally turn to each other. Well played, Jack.
DANNY: Imagine that. Keeping two wives in the dark for that long.
MARTIN: I know. I can't date two women for a month without blowing my cover.
It really doesn't surprise me that Martin isn't smooth enough to pull that off. Knowing him, he'd just end up with two girlfriends who think he's gay instead of one. How lucky that with Danny, he'll never have to worry about that.
Great music cue when Danny and Martin are watching Patrick's car get hauled out of the water. They stand there, side by side in their matching suits (and they both looked particularly natty this episode), while we hear "I'm on the outside/ I'm looking in/ I can see through you/ see your true colors..." Aw, be patient, Danny; you'll get through his walls if you take it slowly. You've made a good start already. Very nice Smallvillian use of a pop song. Why yes, I can turn anything into slashability. Why do you ask? ;)
Oh, and Danny with the kid? Absolutely adorable (and a bit sad).
So, someone's writing fic from this episode, right? Right?
sarahchica?

So, you had to wait until he was dead until you
could plant one on the guy, huh? You shouldn't
stay like that forever. I mean, you never know
