Dec. 17th, 2003 01:07 pmIt's probably a good thing I'm not trying to see RotK today, because I'm not sure I could get to the theater. It's wretched outside, snowy and slushy and slippery and sloppy. Blech. So I'd rather not be on the road (though it's a pity that three-quarters of you guys are posting things that I want so much to read but really shouldn't yet, even though I have no spoiler-fear).
I'm supposed to be baking cookies, but instead I'm tearing the house apart looking for one gorram cookbook that apparently grew legs and walked away, because it's just not here. Grrrrrr. If anyone has Joan Nathan's Jewish Holiday Kitchen (or possibly Jewish Holiday Baker, since I know there's some recipe overlap), could you let me know if that's in fact the book that has the recipe for mandelbrot made with kosher wine, and I think some shaved chocolate, and... something else, it's been a while since I've made these, and possibly email me the recipe? I'd be tremendously grateful.
Anyway, I thought I'd take a break from tossing my house and work off some frustrations on an old meme that I skipped when it started the rounds. Might as well, eh?
( The 'Ship Meme )
Speaking of pairings... I don't usually use portmanteau pairing names, though I've been known to out of laziness (Araboro, Sparrington, etc). For most of my pairings, though, they just don't work very well. Like, "Manny" in WaT? Erm. "Grick" in CSI? Not good. "Dethos" in Highlander? Catchy, but no. And Ezra is hopeless; his name won't combine well with anything. Still, I don't generally mind them, as long as I can figure out who the pairing being referred to is.
And now my newest, deepest, shiniest addiction is Joan of Arcadia. The portmaneau versions of Joan/Adam aren't particularly euphonious, but they're no worse than anything you'd hear in your average anime. But Grace/Luke? Ha! Would you prefer "Gruke" or "Lace"? And sure, "Lace" is pretty, but for anyone who doesn't watch it, this ...
... is Grace, with one of her quotes from the show (my icon was made by
_extraflamey_, and I'm terribly fond of it). She's very fierce and very butch, and I think she's fabulous, but "Lace"? No. And what if, ultimately, her interests lie elsewhere in the Girardi family? "Groan," anyone? I just don't think that'll work.
All right, back to cookbook hunting. Maybe the cats are hiding it from me. Maybe the house ate it. Maybe I never owned it in the first place, and it was all a dream...
