This week's rerun is "The Fire and the Wood," the second episode. Joan joins AP Chem and meets Adam and Grace, we see the greatest number of different God-forms thus far, and Amber shows us why she's the best TV crier since Alyson Hannigan. Oh, and God says one of my favorite lines yet. If you haven't and you've been meaning to, give Joan a try.

The big Joan news of the day is, of course, Amber's Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Congratulations, Amber! She's up against the usual award show darlings (Allison Janney could probably build a house out of her awards by now, and rightly so), but the GGs have traditionally been a little more free in their choices than the Emmys. Claire Danes, Jennifer Garner and Keri Russell all won as newcomers, after all. So it's not impossible that Amber could win. Fingers crossed!

Joan was also honored by the AFI earlier in the week as one of the "10 Most Outstanding Television Shows of the Year" (here's a blurb on these awards' history and such). The rationale (interesting choice of words) was: "JOAN OF ARCADIA is proof of divine intervention. Just when it appeared that original family dramas were dead, the airwaves brought America this fresh and funny story of a girl who talks to God. Spiritual without being self-righteous, Joan's struggle to live with the inconvenience of a moral life raises issues the entire family can watch, discuss and enjoy." Aw, how nice.

Here's an article comparing Joan with Tru Calling, and coming heavily down on the side of Joan. Sean Twist makes the same comparison in this week's column and also chooses Joan over Tru (many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] serrico for the link!). And going along with those two, here's an old article, one of many that picks up on the same "is there a trend toward spirituality in TV?" theme. And here's one about the various faces of God in the show, with spotlights on a few of the best (though not, surprisingly, Mrs. LandingGod).

And even though it has nothing to do with Joan, I feel like celebrating finally finding out what the bird on Frank's jersey is thanks to this week's Chilly Beach (it's a ptarmigan! Yay, ptarmigans and evil pies!), so here's a list of the worst hockey logos ever. I'll stick with oddly colored foliage, thank you very much.
