I have many, many comments to catch up on, but meh, not tonight. Too sleepy. I also had a post on the Original Score category at the Oscars and how whimsically its rules have been applied over the years lurking in my brain for weeks, but I lazed around so long that it seems a bit silly to do it now. Lucky for everyone, trust me. This year's noms are interesting (overall, I mean, not just for Score- I can't really comment on Score until I hear House of Sand and Fog, even though it's Horner and I've probably heard it twenty times already). I'm very surprised to see Johnny Depp up there. Not that he'll win, because he doesn't have a prayer, but still, very cool. And I know I'll probably get thrown out of the fandom for saying this (not to mention disowned by my mother), but I don't think Sean Astin was unfairly overlooked. Paul Bettany, yes, but Sean? Nah. I just was never as enamoured as most were by his performance in this movie, I guess. He was good, don't get me wrong, but I thought he was better in the first two. I would have given a nod to Bernard Hill, myself. And Andrew Lesnie was robbed blind. Stupid Academy. But anyway. Interesting nominations with not a few surprises.

What am I doing, this was just supposed to be a GIP. And so it shall be... tah dah! Maxine of Arc icon! Huzzah! It was a gift from the ever-fabulous [livejournal.com profile] castalianspring, 'cause she's just cool like that. Isn't Jane Wiedlin a cutie? Perkiest Joan of Arc ever. I'd love it if she showed up as God on Joan of Arcadia- it would be fun for those who got it, but she's not so recognizeable that it would be distracting. And hey, she's even sort of doing the Godwave in my icon. It's a sign! Most excellent. *g*

Yep, that's the one! I have mad love for that movie, and not a bit of shame about it. It's just too fun.

Little Sister sneaks up behind you! Ah Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha... speaking of letting things slide until they seem silly.... I've got until Feb 1 to complete and submit a GSA grant application... heh heh heh, oops. And The Leafs lost last night..... Talk to me, sometime, will ya? Yeah, thanks. -grins-

Whee! Just glad you like your pressie. I will, however, cheerfully accept any and all declarations of coolness ;)

Late or not, I for one would still like to read an essay by you on the Oscar Original Score category. You have piqued my interest.

I'm hesitant to comment about the actor nominations, b/c I'm so terribly biased about the LOTR cast. I'd give every one of them an Oscar :) But yeah, Lesnie was shafted.

The essay will be my weekend project, then (that and about 45,000 comments). It's just a matter of making myself sit down and type, really, since it's mostly just historical stuff- fun to know (I hope), but not so time-consuming as deep meta analysis.

If I were in charge of the acting awards, there'd be one for Best Ensemble, like at the BAFTAs, which RotK would win of course, and I'd still give the whole cast individual awards. Oh well, some day when I'm Empress of Everything...
