I wish everyone everywhere could watch Chilly Beach. Of course, a lot of the jokes might not work for the Canada-deprived, but never mind that. Today's episode was Atom Egoyan (and his eyebrows) vs. James Cameron in "Hollywood Far North," with a cameo appearance by The Beer Store. Too, too funny. Just the right balance of lines like, "Something happened? Are you certain you were watching a Canadian movie?" and "I wish this was a Canadian movie like the one Frank's in. Those movies are too busy saying things and making sense to have cool things like explosions." Snerk. I'm still kicking myself over missing the Beachcombers episode ("Chilly Beachcombers," natch) a few weeks back, so I have to remember that next week is the Christmas episode, guest-starring Leslie Nielsen as Santa. Must watch, definitely. I hope, I hope, I hope the British polar bear will be in it, too.

So today I scraped together just enough energy to drag myself out of the house, because I felt I should be doing something (yeah, I still feel lousy, I don't know why, and I have acres of sympathy for anyone who feels anything less than absolutely perfectly healthy). As I figured it, going to the movies was both doing something and not doing anything, and anyway, one can never see M&C too many times. But the movie theater gods are cruel, oh so terribly cruel, and either they or the stupid newspaper got the schedule wrong. No more matinees. I would have needed to wait six hours for the next showing, and trust me, this mall is not that interesting. So instead I went to Borders, to buy too many magazines and fondle the Firefly DVDs, since mine are still on their way on little UPS feet. Word to the wise- crooning longingly at the shiny, shiny pictures of our Big Damn Heroes? Makes the salespeople really nervous. I'm just saying.

For some reason, there's a bit in this song that always makes me think of Jayne Cobb. Not the whole thing really, just "he's a big strong man with a child's mind/ don't you take his booze away." Can't imagine why that is.

reminds me of the time I went to see Towers and at the last fucking moment, as while I was in line, they ditched it for a new release. That was a Very Bad Day. So it was the end of March. Still.

Did you get your Return ost yet? Huh? Huh?

While you were in line? Oooh, grrr. That's just cruel. Definitely a Very Bad Day.

Did you get your Return ost yet?

Okay, you'll probably laugh at me for this, because it's really, really sad, but I went to three stores today (and two last week), and I still haven't gotten it... because of the card/cover thingie. All I can find are Gollum and Denethor cards, and I don't like Gollum, and I have seriously mixed feelings about Denethor (who seems to me like a slightly strange choice for a card anyway, but okay), so I haven't bought it. Even though the music is exactly the same. Like I said, really sad. I have two more stores to check on Monday, so fingers crossed, but I may have to bite the bullet and just get Denethor.

I am such a geek.

Denethor has Faramir on the back, just so you know. And I thought somehow you were getting the special edition. Dang.

Hm, Faramir. That would be a plus. Much better than Gollum, anyway.

I was going to get the special edition, and at the last minute I decided not to. I forget why, something dumb and shortsighted probably, like I decided to wait for a complete release from all three movies which might not even happen, or something. They did have several copies of the special edition at one of the stores (and a couple of the three-CD sets), though, so if I can't find a good cover (Theoden would be great), I'll probably end up getting it anyway.

If you can afford the edition with the dvd, GET IT! I adore the Shore documentary. Just the sort of thing I crave.

I want the 'symphony', and I'll buy anything if they'll give us more music.

A) I love that icon. And I do thank Canada for its wonderful exports.

B) You've gotten me excited about my Firefly DVDs which should be on the way too. Yay Firefly!

Thanks! I can take no credit, though- the Nathan version was made by [livejournal.com profile] serrico and the Jewel version is by [livejournal.com profile] taraljc.

I hope you get your DVDs soon! Argh, the wait is evil. I passed the UPS truck pulling off my road when I was coming back from the mall, and I was positively giddy thinking they might be waiting for me. But no. Not yet.

No more matinees? How evil. Did you end up seeing it at all tonight?

Heh. The thought of you making the salespeople nervous amuses me.

I'm going to have to go listen to that song now. And the rest of my celtic rock.

Extremely evil. But naturally we wouldn't want to deprive anyone of seeing half-naked Jack Nicholson or Will Ferrell prancing around in tights. Blech. And I've only seen M&C twice, which is nowhere near enough. I think I know of a theater or two where it's still playing, though, so fingers crossed.

You're a Dropkicks fan? Cool! Have you ever heard Black 47?

Oh good. I'd hate to think you'd only get to see it twice. Even 5 times hasn't been enough for me. I need to catch it again before it leaves the cheap theatre.

Well, not a huge fan, but I like certain songs of theirs. I'm a bigger Flogging Molly and Prodigals fan. Haven't heard of Black 47, though. Are they another celtic rock/punk band?

I like Flogging Molly as well, but the Prodigals I haven't heard of. I'll have to hunt them up. Black 47 was the first Celtic rock/punk band I heard- the lead singer (Larry Kirwan) has kind of an odd voice, but it grows on you. They have some songs on their website (http://www.black47.com/), if you're curious. The two I usually play for people ("Road to Ruin" and "Different Drummer") aren't there, but "Funky Ceili" is lots of fun and very catchy, "I Ain't Marching Anymore" is good (though I'll always prefer Phil Ochs' original), and "Danny Boy" and "Fanatic Heart" are a good representation of their political songs (my favorite of those is "James Connelly"- awesome, awesome song). And, um, the end. Heh. *g*

Cool! I'm downloading now, thanks for the link. They seem to have "James Connelly" up on the site now, actually.
