Joan in brief

Okay, I am going to catch up on my Joan posts, if only for my own peace of mind. That was the plan for today, in fact, but then my Vividcon DVDs arrived and pretty much everything else got tossed aside. Oops. But for now, I have the very briefest of thoughts

There were a lot of ways this ep. could have gone wrong. A step too far in this direction and we're in Touched by an Irritant mush-land, a step too far that way and we're the trap of "too clever for our own emotional response", like the weaker episodes of the Sorkinverse. But Joan managed to pull of the balancing act, thanks to the generally excellent writing, some superior acting from both the regulars and the guests (Yay Father Ken! And I'm firmly in Teen!God's camp now, [livejournal.com profile] alethialia. I can resist him no longer. Even DeeliebopperGirl!God was better this time, albeit deeliebopperless), and a growing web of character connections that makes every throwaway moment charged with possibility.

I had had my suspicions about Adam's mother for a while, and unfortunately I guessed right. My poor, poor Adam. Between this episode and the preview for next week, I'm just a huge mess of Adam-concern. It was bad enough dealing with the whole "when Willow cries, I cry with her" situation during Buffy- how am I going to survive having that reaction to Joan and Adam? I'll dehydrate!

Nice thematic linkages between Joan's quest-of-the-day and the police case, even if the plots didn't tie together very well. Normally I'm on the hunt for imagery of vision and sight, but today's lesson made Joan (and Will, and everybody else) use the ears rather than the eyes. Can't have a lopsided visionary, after all. But that's for the long post, because I want to double-check a couple of things.

Random, non-episode-based thing- I name the folders for the bookmarks on my favorite shows after a weapon that's been important to that show, like "Vera" for Firefly, "Mr. Pointy" for Buffy, "Chakram" for Xena, and so on. But the only weapons on Joan are the cops' guns, and that didn't really work. So instead I went with "Insight" for our young visionary-in-training. Seemed to fit.

So I'm possibly heading off to the sunny south tomorrow. Well, to Connecticut, anyway. From tomorrow until Wednesday or so, I think, but I won't actually know until tomorrow morning. I guess I should probably pack, just in case. Argh.

Bwahaha!! I knew my boy would convert you to the Dark Side! Or the Light Side. Whatever. Yay for Teen!God love. He's very, very close to becoming my TV boyfriend, especially after tonight. I have no idea who kris Lemche is, but I love him.

This show is great, man. Talk about a surprise.

But you're absolutely right, the show was just wonderful tonight. And we're getting more Adam stuff, which is always a good thing. Hopefully they'll keep that trend up, too.

I await your full thoughts on this ep, as always.

Kris has amazing godlike powers to woo viewers to his fan club. He was just amazing in that last scene. So many layers to his performance. I take back every lukewarm comment I made about him at first (but he can still be your TV boyfriend, since I have Archie *g*).

I'm dreading tonight's ep. Just dreading. Angst, pain, argh! You'll get to see it eventually, right? Because I'm happy to loan you my tape if you need it.

I like TeenBoy!God but I think Little GIrl God is my favorite. She's just cute with the curly hair and the glasses...

Amber is, well Amber, she rocks as Joan but I knew she would. I love Adam. Adam is just, man I want to hug him and tell him I understand his soul.

look forward to your catch-up Joan posts.

I liked Little Girl God more in this episode than the other she was in- she was good in the first one too, but a little stiffer. She seemed more comfortable in the role this time around. She's a really cute kid, though, and her clothes crack me up. All that color and patterning! Scary!

I'd never seen Amber in anything before this, so she was a real shock. Maybe "revelation" would be a better word. Heh. I'm so impressed with her abilities. And I'm dreading tonight's episode. Adam-pain and Joan-pain... it's going to be rough. But worth it. I love this show! *g*
