One thing that never fails to make me giggle, no matter how many hundreds of times I've seen "Comes a Horseman," is Kronos' odd taste in aliases. Melvin? That's our boy, the End of Time and the President of the Chess Club.

you know, I've just spent the last two weeks unsuccessfully trying to download Comes a Horseman. You wouldn't happen to have it on your computer? *puppy eyes*

Oh heck, no, I don't. Sorry. My computer would have a nervous breakdown if I tried to download it. I'd be happy to loan you my copy on VHS, though, if you'd like.

thanks, but no. I could probably find it on SPIKE or something. :)

Good luck!

Oh, man, that always made me snicker. I mean, my god, there is a nigh-infinite supply of less-dorky pseudonyms.

"I am Melvin, the End of Time!" doesn't really strike fear into the hearts of one's enemies.

snerk. It makes him sound like a the world's grumpiest spelling bee champ. Maybe he has deeply ingrained Bronze Age Nerd issues from left from when he was a kid?

Melvin? I mean...Melvin?

::dies::

I mean, at least Methos went with the symbolic route, with Adam. But, Melvin? Sheesh.

[identity profile] ealgylden.livejournal.com 2003-10-06 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Methos was smart, yeah. He went for subtly symbolic yet tasteful names, like Adam and Benjamin. But Kronos, well, um. Dork. Or maybe he picked a name like Melvin (or Eugene or Dexter, according to the semi-canonical Watcher Chronicle CD-ROMs that I don't own because that would be geeky) as an excuse to get into more fights. Sort of a proactive, evil, "Boy Named Sue" kind of deal. Maybe?

[identity profile] castalianspring.livejournal.com 2003-10-07 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I didn't know about Benjamin, but I like it. And cool about those Watcher Chronicles that you don't own. I like your theory, though. Makes sense.

[identity profile] ealgylden.livejournal.com 2003-10-10 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he was Dr. Ben Adams when he was running around with Byron (yay!) and then later when he had his affair with Morgan Walker's slave, Charlotte (meh). So 1808-1816, at least. Not that I still have great gobs of this stuff cluttering my brain or anything. *g* And the Watcher Chronicles are so fun, in a super-mega-geeky way. They aren't exactly canonical and they expand on some on-screen stuff, but I like to count them anyway, since they were done by the show's PTB and have official approval and all. The fact that they're slashy doesn't hurt either- I mean, Methos/Byron is blatantly obvious in the show, but textual support is always nice.

Hee. All this geekiness is giving me warm fuzzies. Fitting, as Methos was quite the geek himself. Not to mention so very, very gay.

How did I manage to forget this? Melvin? MELVIN?

Then again, have you seen the actor in "The Last of the Blonde Bombshells" which stars Dame Judy Dench? He's all geeky glasses and an accountant. :-) Melvin suits THAT Pelka just fine. :-)

[identity profile] ealgylden.livejournal.com 2003-10-06 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! He just wanted an excuse to kill more people, I think. "Hey, are you laughing at my name?" thwack!

Ooh, is he in that too? Neat, it was already on my list, but now I really need to find a copy. Accountant!Pelka sounds like fun. Apparently he's also in... what the heck is the title. The current flick where Diane Lane moves to Tuscany and gets a fabulous house and personal enlightenment and shiny highlights by embracing her inner Free Spirit (tm). He plays a Polish plumber or something. Funny image, that.

LOL! on the excuse to kill more people.

I adore "Last of the Blonde Bombshells." I seem to recall it won an Emmy too. I've seen it at least twice. Dench, Leslie Caron, Ian Holm, Olympia Dukakis, and lots more. Someday I'll get it on DVD. I *think* Pekla plays an accountant. Geeky, definitely.

Cool! on the new Diane Lane movie. I have that on my must rent list when it comes out on DVD. I do lots more renting than theater-going now that I have the DVD player and can see stuff letterboxed properly.
