Back from the funeral. Am contemplating Chinese spareribs and deciding what comics to order. Am torn between wanting to watch Mulan and The Heroic Trio- animated fierce warrior lady or live-action fierce warrior ladies? Also, poetry spamming.

I, may I rest in peace--I, who am still living, say,
May I have peace in the rest of my life.
I want peace right now while I'm still alive.
I don't want to wait like that pious man who wished for one leg
of the golden chair of Paradise, I want a four-legged chair
right here, a plain wooden chair. I want the rest of my peace now.
I have lived out my life in wars of every kind: battles without
and within, close combat, face-to-face, the faces always
my own, my lover-face, my enemy-face.
Wars with the old weapons--sticks and stones, blunt axe, words,
dull ripping knife, love and hate,
and wars with newfangled weapons--machine gun, missile,
words, land mines exploding, love and hate.
I don't want to fulfill my parents' prophecy that life is war.
I want peace with all my body and all my soul.
Rest me in peace.

- Yehuda Amichai

I had meant to offer my condolences earlier, but wasn't sure what was the most appropriate medium. But I'll do so now. I'm so, so sorry for your loss. I am. And it's difficult, if not impossible, to find those magic words that'll help, if only a little. But what I know I can say is that I'm sorry, and my thoughts are with you and your friend's family.

Thank you so much. Your kind thoughts are most appreciated. There may not be magic words available for such situations, but the ones you've offered are more helpful than I can clearly express. So thank you.

*hugs* Haven't seen The Heroic Trio, but Mulan is always a fun choice. Hurrah for non-schmaltzy Disney movies.

Lovely poetry.

Yeah, I went with Mulan. I love that movie- it and Lilo and Stitch (and a few of others) amply make up for the soppier Disney movies, as far as I'm concerned. Heroic Trio is great fun- Maggie Cheung, Anita Mui and Michelle Yeoh use cool kung fu to fight a baby-stealing baddie. It's so much fun, even if some parts of it are a little cheesy (like the costumes).

And I recommend Amichai highly, if you ever come across him. Very talented, very moving poet.

Hmm, I haven't seen Lilo and Stitch yet, but after all the recommendations from various friends, I may have to go rent it. So it's good? Not schmaltzy?

I'll have to look him up. I like poetry, but I'm not terribly well versed in it. I have my favorites, but that's about it.

Lilo and Stitch is wonderful, so much better than I was expecting. The family stuff is touching but not corny- whoever wrote Lilo and Nani's fights must have siblings, because they sure sound real. And they also touch on stuff like foster care, which is new for Disney, I think. The alien stuff is neat and much less annoying than I had feared (Stitch seemed irritating in the ads, but in the movie he works). And the songs are either Elvis or background Hawaiian stuff, which is nice. Overall, really good movie. Plus, Nani's boyfriend is really cute. For an animated guy. ;)
