Sheep that I am, I can't resist that "show your ignorance of your friends' fandoms" meme. I'm not counting any fandom that I used to read in but haven't in a while, like Smallville or West Wing, but even so, there's lots I don't know! Oh, this is embarrassing.

Nicked from [livejournal.com profile] elke_tanzer.

Everwood: has teen boys angsting and being in love in a small town. No superpowers, though. The two main dads are doctors, I think, and one is Treat Williams. Somebody's in a coma? And there's a boy named Bright, which is a little strange.

Ghost Ship: Karl's in it, so it's on the "to rent" list. There's a ship. With ghosts. Or something. And many characters die horribly after being attacked by cheap special effects, and Karl's in love with Ron Eldard from Mystery, Alaska, and hopefully Julianna Margulies gets killed first. But I doubt it.

All HP pairings except Sirius/Remus: Snape is much more Alan Rickman than the guy described in the book. He has a Tragic Romantic Past, which is why he's so mean. Draco has a personality, and he stole it from Methos. Percy is just misunderstood. Oliver Wood has lines. Ginny Weasley has lines. Dumbledore doesn't have lines. Or sex.

CSI: Miami: Speedle is gay gay gay. Delko isn't, which is too bad for Speedle. Horatio sucks (but that’s common knowledge). The women never seem to show up.

Phantom Menace: Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon have a love that will reach beyond all space and time and boundaries of mortality. Sometimes they cry. There's some guy named Xanatos, who was, I think, a padawan of Qui-Gon's gone bad. Maul gets lines (occasionally).

Man from UNCLE: Cold War spies in love. Stars Robert Vaughn, who played the Ezra-ish character in the movie version of Mag7. Russian counterpart is Illya, who is one of the Blair Sandburg/Daniel Jackson/Ezra Standish club of characters who get cruelly unmanned (and shrunk) and are made to simper and cry. Lots of canonical torture.

Big Wolf on Campus: There's a werewolf? On a campus? And there are guys named Tommy and Merton.

Suicide Kings: I can't even begin to guess. Something about the Mafia or something. Damn, when Caroline says "rare fandom," she means it. There are characters named Brett and Avery, that's all I know.

All Trek except Enterprise: Kirk's a slut, and Spock is too good for him. Chakotay loves Janeway, except when he loves Torres, but that's only when he's wrong so that's okay, we'll ignore that. Julian loves Garak, except when he loves Miles, but either one is okay, for once (unless you're Keiko, I guess). Riker must never be allowed to have sex. Picard is plagued with Mary Sues, and he loves Q, sort of. (I watched all the shows, I just never read the fic. Probably just as well)

Tennis/Cyclist RPS: I don't know who any of these people are, but they're all in love and sleeping together.

Pretender: Jeffrey's Boyfriend is a super-genius undercover guy. There's some chick named Miss Parker, who's gorgeous, and I think she's hunting him to get him back in the clutches of the Evil Scientists. Jeffrey's Boyfriend also has a wicked sadistic streak for a good guy.

General Hospital: The show itself is like badfic. Some dude named Sonny Corinthos has eaten up everyone's screentime. There's another dude named Zander who was destined to be a kept man. And another dude named Nikolas wants his own brother. Why don't I watch soaps again?

Hard Core Logo: It's Canadian (hey, that's important). CKR is a punk. Um...

Alias: SpyGirl changes her clothes constantly. She has a Tormented Sort-Of Romance with some guy named Vaughn (first name or last name? Or only name?). But apparently she's missing time and he's married now, so who knows. Her dad is Victor Garber and her mom is Lena Olin, so she's Very Lucky, except that they're on opposite sides in the spy game, so she's also Very Unlucky. She and Vaughn have a Destiny. Assuming they don't get killed.

The Professionals: They're British. They work for CI5. They're named Bodie and Doyle. They have unfortunate 70's hair.

Farscape: okay, I actually know lots and lots about this show, because my sister and her boyfriend love it. But I've never seen it myself. So I'm going to skip this one.

Andromeda: I watched the first season, but apparently none of that applied in any later seasons. Trance changed color and grew horns. Tyr lost the leather-and-chainmail look, which is a real pity. Rhade, who died in the pilot, came back, only it was his lookalike descendent or something? And so did Dylan's girlfriend? And Sorbo's ego ate up all the actors and writers and producers and stuff, and now Tyr's gone entirely, and every genre actor in Vancouver has guest-starred, and the show sounds really complicated but is probably as cheesy as it ever was (which was why I liked it).

Les Miserables: Fangirl French is evil.

Ouch. I feel ignorant. My fandoms (as a reader/watcher/commentator only, but an obsessive one) include: Mag7, LotR, CSI, Without a Trace, Highlander, Sharpe, Hornblower, Pirates of the Caribbean, Firefly, Enterprise, Good Omens, Jeeves and Wooster, Nero Wolfe, Brimstone, Sentinel, Stargate SG-1, Angel/BtVS, Goldeneye, Harry Potter (Sirius/Remus only), Real Ghostbusters and Lawrence of Arabia. And others I'm forgetting, I know.

*laughing and wiping my eyes*

Beverly Crusher is Picard's true love except when it's Q. And Seven of Nine is Janeway's competition for both Chakotay AND Torres. And command of the ship, actually.

On Andromeda everyone looks good with everyone else and can all be made plausible in canon, too, since the show has so many inconsistencies. Except Rev Bem, but he's long gone.

Draco, as [livejournal.com profile] jenwrites pointed out to me, is actually a baby Spike.

Dagnabbit, that's why I shouldn't do these things at 2am. I completely forgot Beverly, and I was a big Beverly/Picard shipper back in the day (I grew out of it, mostly). I thought having Picard as a stepfather might make Wesley less annoying, too (one could always hope). And to leave out Seven, when it's obviously the "Seven of Nine Show," oh blackest shame! Cute little Harry-n-Tom got skipped, too. I could never be a real Trekkie if I'm this sloppy. *g*

I miss Rev. I know Brent Stait got makeup-leprosy and had to leave, but Rev was a neat character (if only because he was mysteriously deprived of The Pretty gene that everyone else had).

Draco as baby Spike is perfect! Snarky, leather-wearing "bad" boy who eats up everyone else's spotlight! Excellent!

I feel a little dirty seeing all the strange rareslash on this list for which I am responsible. Let's see if I can sort some of this out:

Ghost Ship: Karl's in it, so it's on the "to rent" list. There's a ship. With ghosts. Or something. And many characters die horribly after being attacked by cheap special effects, and Karl's in love with Ron Eldard from Mystery, Alaska, and hopefully Julianna Margulies gets killed first. But I doubt it.

Karl's character is indeed in love with Ron's character, and Ron loves him right back so all is well with the world. Well, there is that one thing but it's a spoiler, so...no. Julianna, sadly, is not the first to die, but she's actually not that bad in this movie. And I say that as a hardcore Julianna hater. Oh, and the cheap special effects? So true. So very, very true.

Big Wolf on Campus: There's a werewolf? On a campus? And there are guys named Tommy and Merton.

Dumbest. Show. Ever. And it's aimed at the preteen audience, which just goes to show that I really am some kind of scary pervert. But it's also really really slashy, so it's not my fault. Tommy's the football player/Golden Boy/all-around prom king-type until he gets bit by a werewolf. Merton is a Goth, a loner and just all-around annoying, but Tommy goes to him for help because he's the only one in Pleasantville (no I'm not making that up) who knows anything about lycanthropes.

They fall in love become friends and three seasons' worth of their senior year later, kill a bunch of demons, make lots of cheesy references to Buffy and old horror films, do a tremendous amount of unnecessary boytouching, and end the entire series by falling into a single dorm room bed together. I'm not making that up either.

Suicide Kings: I can't even begin to guess. Something about the Mafia or something. Damn, when Caroline says "rare fandom," she means it. There are characters named Brett and Avery, that's all I know.

This movie...forget the fact that I am compelled by my inner Brett to write slash. Forget that Brett is so obviously in love with Avery that the slash is completely text. Forget the number of times they touch unnecessarily during the movie, or the amount of time Avery spends staring at Brett with his big doe eyes. The fact is it's just a really entertaining film. Christopher Walken as the retired mobster who's been kidnapped has a lot to do with that. And Jay Mohr shines in this film. It's definitely worth watching. And not just because of the slash, although that's always nice too.

Yeah. I could comment on one or two others, but I won't. Except to say that Speed is definitely gay. So very gay. Damn him.

Pshaw, it's educational. How else would people learn about all the slashy, cheesy, really obscure shows and movies they missed?

Karl's character is indeed in love with Ron's character, and Ron loves him right back so all is well with the world. Well, there is that one thing but it's a spoiler, so...no.

Yay! But I'm guessing that one or both of them gets offed? Not that that's ever stopped me. A bunch of the pairings I ship are half-dead. And I'd say "not that bad" is high praise for Julianna, so that's a plus.

Wow, Big Wolf on Campus sounds awesome. I mean, awful. Yeah, that's it. *g* The corny teenybopper adventures of a werewolf jock and his Goth boyfriend? How did I miss that? They "do a tremendous amount of unnecessary boytouching, and end the entire series by falling into a single dorm room bed together"? Just... wow. I had no idea.

Same with Suicide Kings, actually. I'd never even heard of it before I found your website. Interesting cast, anyway, and the thought of Walken as a kidnapped mobster is intriguing. Plus now you have me all tempted by the boytouching and the big doe eyes. Another one for the "to rent" list- I definitely need to take a weekend and catch up.

General Hospital: [snippety] Why don't I watch soaps again?

Beats the heck outta me. It's quality entertainment! Just make sure you have a version of the show to watch in your head--one that makes sense, has good writing, and doesn't suck--while you're not mercilessly mocking the drivel that's actually on the television.

Jarod played Steve, the object of Steven Weber's (yeah, the guy from Wings. But he's really good!) affections in Jeffrey (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113464/). He has a Caesar 'do, which looks kind of dorky, but he spends 90% of the movie in muscle shirts and painted-on pants, he wears a tux at the end, and he and Jeffrey have a kiss in the middle of a gym that is pretty darned hot for this mainstream a movie (relatively speaking). Patrick Stewart is in it too, and he's completely fabulous. Not as pretty as Jarod though. Wow.

I got really addicted to Passions when I was working on my MA, but that was because it was that or hard-core drug use, and I was broke. ;) Pretty much the same effect, though. GH sounds like high art in comparison, believe me.

It's...not really reincarnation. The modernes, I mean. I think the closest I can define them as is modern AUs, only not necessarily very close to the originals.

They're actually a small subset of the fandom, mostly that of the BNFs well-known fans who run archives and write a lot of really good fic. I think.

Hee! Well, I'm sure I'd be right there with you if I'd ever seen the show. Angsty teens in love can be fun (I fell hard for Smallville that first year, and even if that didn't last I still do like it), but somehow middle-aged doctor dads seems more my thing. And they look so cute on your icons. *g*

My stance on Harry Potter- Books One and Two aren't stunning, but they're fun. Book Three is awesome. Book Four is very, very good. Book Five is still glaring at me reproachfully from my "to read" pile, because I couldn't deal with Harry becoming a sullen, tormented teen while it was ninety degrees outside. Besides... well, I don't know if you have spoiler-fear for them, so suffice to say I'm not really looking forward to it. The movies are fun, if not inspired (and a bit too long), but the adult casts are amazing. It's like a roll call of my favorite English character actors.

Amazing how so much slash can come about from such a bad movie.

No kidding. And all from one scene, as far as I can tell. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were friendly but pretty distant until Qui-Gon got offed, and then it was all tragedy and loving touches for, like, a minute. And then he died. Very sweet, but that's really not a lot of subtext to go on. Or maybe I'm just spoiled after source materials like Highlander and LotR?

Man from UNCLE is one of those classics (like Wild Wild West, which I love) that I really wish was on DVD. I've heard such great things about it, but it doesn't seem to be in syndication (not that I have cable anyway). And I like Robert Vaughn. Oh well, maybe someday.

Man, after the explanation of this series in the comments, I really want to see it *pout*

Me too! I barely even remember it hearing about it at the time, and it sounds like we missed out on some quality bad TV. And they even ended up together at the end! I'm so sorry I missed it!

Yeah, I think [livejournal.com profile] sarachica might be a fandom of one on that one. I know who Lance Armstrong is, and a very small handful of tennis players, but other than that...

I know quite a lot about this show and have read some fic, but I've never seen a single ep. I've seen a few vids, though.

That's like me and Starsky and Hutch. I'm familiar with the canon (yay research!), I've read a bunch of fic, and so on, but I've never actually seen it. Not having cable gets a bit frustrating after a while. Like when I miss Farscape entirely. Grrr.

Interesting thoughts on the HP books. Thanks to LJ, I've heard about the spoiler, and that would probably color any future reading about that character. I may have to at least watch the movies, since, as you said, there are so many amazing adult actors in them.

Hee, maybe :) Yeah, all the slashiness was mainly from that death scene, since for most of the movie the two characters were either apart or having a little row. Doesn't really compare to such an ongoing slashfest like LOTR.

Man from UNCLE is one of those classics (like Wild Wild West, which I love) that I really wish was on DVD. I've heard such great things about it, but it doesn't seem to be in syndication (not that I have cable anyway). And I like Robert Vaughn. Oh well, maybe someday.

Oh, Wild Wild West! I second that wish for it to be on DVD. What a fun show. TNT used to show both WWW and MFU, but not lately. You can find some Uncle on VHS in video rental places, mostly the ones which had big name (or future big name) guest stars.

That's like me and Starsky and Hutch. I'm familiar with the canon (yay research!), I've read a bunch of fic, and so on, but I've never actually seen it. Not having cable gets a bit frustrating after a while. Like when I miss Farscape entirely. Grrr.

Really? Oh, it's so good. I had heard so much about S&H for years, then finally TNN started showing it. I'm so hoping they'll put it out on DVD.
