So my quick little excursion to pick up a copy of TTT turned into an all-day trek, but I have it and it was cheap and I'm watching it right now. That is, I'm staring at it. As it sits there. Unwatchable. Because I still can't figure out how to hook up the goddamn DVD player that I got back in March. Swear to God, if there's anything Darwinian about being able to set up entertainment technology, my genes are not in a happy position here.

But I have the darned thing (yay! something else to dust!), and I have a fabulous new book as well. "New" as a relative term, since it was published in 1923. Zarah the Cruel by Joan Conquest (dude!), author of such notables as Desert Love, Leonie of the Jungle, and The Hawk of Egypt. This should be as fun as The Sheik was- while deciding whether to get it or not, I randomly opened it to Chapter VII, which begins, "The desert is the cradle of love!" Really, how could I resist?

So a good day but a long one, and with Zarah in hand I'll hie myself to bed. And in the morning there will be [livejournal.com profile] carolinecrane's Denial!Fic to devour (at last! at last!), Nicky vs. the towel bar in "Last Laugh" (one of the high points of the season for me) and "Maple Street," which I know I liked but offhand I forget why, plus everyone's continuing squeeing over TTT, which I do so love to read, plus who knows what other lovely things.

Some days, it's just good to be alive.

Sorry you're still TTT-less. I too have the DVD, but still lack the time to sit down and watch it. At least I have a long weekend starting tomorrow. Yay for Labor Day!

Yay indeed! Long weekends are a happy thing. I'm beginning to think I should lurk around one of the local colleges until I find some technogeek to kidnap and force to set up the stupid DVD player. It'd be a lot simpler. Oh well, at least I have the DVD- I'm sure I'll get to see it someday.

Well, if all else fails, start plugging things into your TV randomly. and trying that. It may not just be the connection, it might be that you can't figure out which button to press on the remote to "make go good"

anyway, you probably wonder who in the devil I am... I've added you to my friends list as I periodically look for intelligent women like myself who list Freya Stark as an interest. So few of us, we might have to make an LJ Community (:

Hello and welcome, fellow Freya-fan! I'm never sure whether to be sorry that there are so few people who list her as an interest or to be pleased that there are any at all. Some of both, I suppose- she is rather out of fashion at the moment. But hey, if someone started a community, I'd certainly join.

But I feel I should warn you, I lean toward babble, and I skip topics and fandoms with impunity. Combination of too many interests and a short attention span. *g*

Well, if all else fails, start plugging things into your TV randomly. and trying that.

You know, I might just try that. It certainly couldn't work any worse than my current plan of "stare at it resentfully until it hooks itself up out of pity".
