Okay, I know everyone and her sister is off wallowing in Two Towersian delights (I'm hoping to pick up a copy tomorrow, not that the DVD player's hooked up. Still), but meanwhile I have a quick LotR toy question. Has anyone seen the Armies of Middle Earth toys in real life? All I have to go on are some itty-bitty pictures online, but they seem really neat (in concept). There are several I think I'd want (Boromir and his hobbits, Haldir and friends, Legolas and Gimli, Eomer on horseback and the Eomer/Eowyn/expendable footsoldier, at least), but only if they aren't just little plastic blobs. Has anyone come across them, or know where I can see better (and bigger) pictures?

Right then, back to pining for TTT and feeling sorry for myself. Headache, nothing big. I'm just feeling whiny. Maybe I'll go watch Labyrinth or something equally comfort foodish.

Target near me has several of them. Aragorn doesn't look just like Viggo but he's about as close as the 6" action figures.

They just can't seem to get Aragorn quite right, can they? Viggo's features must be particularly difficult to sculpt or something. Anyway, thanks muchly!

I've seen the teeny Aragorn and Brego and the Eowyn, Eomer and random Rohirrim sets. I was tempted to buy Aragorn until I picked him up and really looked at him. The paint job was less than stellar (his hair colour was not quite lining up with the sculpt itself), and he looked angry in the way only the very wee can look when they are faced with an oversized world. I figure if TeenyPlastic!Aragorn makes me break out in giggles in the middle of the toy store, it's probably not the best idea to buy him -- at least not until I can find one with a better paint job. The Rohirrim set was around the same level of disturbing. I think the paint jobs are hit and miss on these bunch. But that's just MHO, of course. ^_^

Ah ha, see, that's exactly what I was afraid of. Paint jobs are tough to get right on small figures, but I'm really obsessive about that sort of thing and it would eventually drive me nuts. So, too bad, but not surprising. I'll keep an eye out anyway, I guess, but it's probably just as well- these toys have cost me enough already. Thanks muchly, you've been most helpful!

Heee! Very vivid! *g*

Plus, did you see the PRICE? I'd have a handful if it didn't cost me an arm (in which case I'd have no hand to hold said figures, rendering them USELESS). For a trio of small (but well painted and sculpted) PVC figures, I cannot pay 8 bucks or more. The entire point of the line is to build armies... not even Sauron paid that much for HIS evil army. I mean, he used, like, trees and mud and pop tarts 'n' stuff. I'm sure Kraft Mac n Cheese was in there somewhere too.

Find 'em in TRU, where they're just hitting NY in the past week.

Exactly, they're much too expensive for army-building (which is why I wanted them, of course). Who has that kind of cash these days? Guess I'll be sticking with the 6" figures- at least I know those are well-done.

I haven't seen any other pics of these figures, but even from just seeing the tiny blobby pics above, I'm starting to covet the Boromir w/Merry&Pippin and the Legolas/Gimli on Arod figures. So cool that they're marketed this way :)

Yeah, that was what caught my eye. Not just Boromir, but Boromir and his hobbits! Awww. And anything that has Legolas and Gimli as a set gets points with me, as does any assortment of Rohirrim. But they're kind of expensive to buy without seeing first and no place around here carries them, so it's frustrating. It's tough shopping like a geek in the middle of nowhere. *g*
