More fan-fodder gossip, and a rantlet on infidelity

Poppy Montgomery talks a bit about *that spoiler* for next season's WaT (there's some 24 stuff on the page too, if you watch that).

I really, really hate this development. I thought Sam was smarter than this! Okay, you're upset that your affair with your coworker (your boss!) has ended, so you start something with another coworker? Yeah, that'll make for a pleasant working environment. It's slightly reassuring that it doesn't sound like Poppy knows just how this twist will play out yet, but since she's not saying "Oh no, this love triangle thing was just a silly rumor. We're not planning anything like that," I can't be all that pleased yet.

I hate this. I hate love geometry, I hate infidelity, I hate that there's a really good chance Martin's going to get hurt. Badly. I don't want this.

The revelation of the affair really wounded my opinion of both Sam and Jack last season, and they were already my least favorites on the team (I love both actors and think they're amazingly talented, but I've just never warmed up to these particular characters). It was bad enough when I thought Sam was probably in love with Jack and Jack knew it and didn't know what to do (shades of Gil/Sara, which I also hate), but to find out that yes, they actually had the affair instead of just thinking about it, well, that tore it for me.

(Strong personal opinion coming- Sam/Jack shippers, duck!) Infidelity is my cardinal deadly sin (not for personal reasons- the person who cheated on me wouldn't live to regret it, and I doubt I'd have a computer in prison). You don't cheat on your loved ones. You just don't. If you've made vows to them (marriage or just basic "we're in a relationship- I won't be dishonest with you" stuff), you honor those vows. They matter. And if you're feeling constricted, if your marriage is failing (it happens, I do understand, really I do), if you want someone other than your partner, you need to get released from those vows first. Break up. Get divorced. Or do without. But you don't betray those vows.

My respect for Sam and Jack was really damaged by that plot twist, and I'm not sure how the show can fix it. Not that it matters, since it doesn't look like anything will change for the better anyway... sigh. My show! My beautiful show!

Also, gossip from the new EW- "Abandon Pictures reportedly plans to turn the comic strip Hagar the Horrible into a live-action feature..." What was I just saying about the lack of good Viking movies? Um, this isn't quite what I meant.

I might be growling at Poppy right now. *growls* I can't believe that. Well, Danny will have his hands full.

Man, can you imagine the shit that would go on in their office now? *watches Viv and Danny transfer out* Can I throw things at the producers/writers of WaT? Please?

Hopefully Martin/Sam won't last.

I agree, poor Danny and Viv. Can you imagine what a lousy working environment this whole mess could create? And in a job where their lives could depend on how much they trust each other and how comfortable and assured they are with each other, no less. Stupid PTB. With any luck, the whole thing will be subtly done and over with quickly.

(I love that icon, btw. Very snazzy.)

And, really, why Martin? I mean, he's got all this shit to deal with (his dad, etc). I mean, I know why, cause Eric is hot. But really.

With any luck, the whole thing will be subtly done and over with quickly.

We can only hope.

(Thank you! :)

And, really, why Martin?

Because he has "use me, be cruel to me, drive me further into my repression, I was made to suffer" written all over him? No wonder he has issues. Danny would never fall for it (he's too people-savvy and he knows her too well), so poor Martin plays the sap. Save him, Danny!

If they do decide to make it a big, annoying plotline, I hope Martin figures out that he's being used and ends it first, or some other scenario (depending on how it develops, of course) that doesn't end with his heart being crushed under Sam's pretty-but-impractical high heels. I wouldn't like to see that happen to either character- I don't want him hurt, and I don't want her looking like a man-eating bitch. Being "the other woman" is bad enough.

Save him, Danny!

Amen to that!

I hope they've got this figured out. I sure as hell hope they know what they're doing. Because this is a good wait to ruin an excellent tv show. I fear, though, that Martin will get hurt. I just hope that they'll let Danny (who is so clearly Martin's friend) help him out. And I wouldn't be against having Danny yell at Martin about the thing with Sam.

Slash-wise, there's potential. (With denial, etc.) But ignoring the slash issues this fucks with, it still pisses me off. Man. Someone needs to tell CSI that romance isn't necessary, at least not traditional het kinds.

I'm not sure they do, honestly. Apparently Anthony LaPaglia has been agitating for more "character stuff," and soapy shows like ER still do really well in the ratings, so they probably think this is the perfect moment to spice things up with some sex and drama. After all, doesn't everyone love painful workplace love triangles? And even though the ratings and reviews would seem to indicate it ain't broke, surely it won't harm anything to fix it, right?

Argh. But then no one ever said TV execs were smart.

I just hope that they'll let Danny (who is so clearly Martin's friend) help him out. And I wouldn't be against having Danny yell at Martin about the thing with Sam.

I like both of those ideas. And you're right, it'll probably still be slashable (those two are too great together not to slash). Denial's fine with me (pointing to Boromir, as usual). Even so, I liked the show the way it was. I want the plots to come first, and the character stuff to be worked in subtly and sparingly. I want hints, not hammers.

I liked the way it was balanced last season. I'm really really hoping this stupid plotline will turn out to just be a footnote once in a while, because dude, I don't watch ER or NYPD Blue because of exactly this sort of "personal drama first, job waaaaay down the list" crap. Stupid, meddling PTB.

Danny/Martin can be soapy!!! Ok. I was just ready to make some jokes about bathtubs, but. Eh.

Yes. It's something that WaT does almost as well as Homicide. And yes, TPB can bite me. I'll just cross my fingers and hope.

Heeee! Hey, no complaints from this corner. I'd be all for the "All-Nekkid, All-Soapy Danny/Martin Fest" episode, except, you know, CBS. The old folks watching would keel over.

Homicide! Great comparison! My knee-jerk example of the type is Law & Order, but WaT has slightly more character moments than that show, and anyway, Homicide's a better show. I was thrilled to see Kyle Secor on WaT, even if his character wasn't all that he should have been. But still, Bayliss! My original tormented, slashable, angst-magnet lawman! I miss him so.

And their deaths would result in loss of an audience, and we want WaT to stay on the air. ;)

I try. WaT doesn't always compare well to H:LOTS, but there are certain things. And yes, H:LOTS was the best show, probably ever. I loved Bayliss, too.

I want so say something intelligent and coherent about this news. I want to assure all of us (myself included) that it'll all come to nothing, just a few hints of some behind-the-scenes triangular nonsense that we can gleefully ignore. After all, they did a really poor job of dropping the Sam/Jack hints in season one, so if the triangle is that subtle it won't be so bad.

But I have a headache, so instead I'm just going to go pout about WaT spoilers and wish I'd never started watching the stupid show.

Actually, headache or no (and I'm really sorry about that. I hope you feel better soon!), that is reassuring. I was so busy being upset, I'd forgotten that. If they confine it to occasional hints and maybe a C-plot (or less) in an episode or two, it'll be ignorable (again, not unlike Gil/Sara). There's still hope! I'll never say die! I need to lay off the sugar before posting!

Seriously, though, I'm still hoping this will all come to naught. Poppy sounded like she was just guessing based off a hint or two, so it may not be as bad as it seems. I hope. I hope.
