Little sister is home from Spain, with yummy treats and a tan. Me, I don't tan- I go from "consumptive in a garret" to "boiled lobster" in minutes. Little sister turns caramel. Not fair (and not healthy, nyah nyah). Heatwave has only sort of broken, and the evil that is summer still looms. I really hate summer weather. A coydog (feral dog, possibly diseased, definitely dangerous) is lurking around, upsetting my cats and making me wish I were a better shot. And yet another week is over before I got it together and accomplished anything. Time flies when you're being a slug.

Since Friday means memes (though it may be Saturday by the time I post this), I think I'll do the OTP meme, nicked from [livejournal.com profile] elke_tanzer.

1. What's your all-time OTP? (Slash or het, any fandom at all)

I'll start by ignoring all the unpleasant overtones in the term OTP, because otherwise this is silly. Well, sillier. And I can't pick a single pairing out of all my many fandoms, because I just don't have those decision-making skills. So anyway, most of my fandoms hooked me through a character- Boromir, Methos, Ezra, Wesley, Simon, etc (I have a "type" as to characters' emotional profiles, I guess- I like the wounded ones). I may have certain leanings or pairing preferences within those fandoms (Aragorn/Boromir or Simon/Mal, for example) but in general as long as my favored character is half of the pairing and he (or she) is well-written, I'll read anything.

However, in my smaller, more rare fandoms, I do tend to have OTPs. Danny/Martin, Crowley/Aziraphale, Archie/Wolfe, Darien/Bobby, Zeke/Lucifer, Peter/Egon... the less common the fandom, the more likely I am to have an OTP. The exceptions to that rule of thumb are Sirius/Remus and Jim/Blair- big fandoms, but only those pairings for me within them. Legolas/Gimli is an exception too, because while I'll read Boromir/anybody, I can only read those two with each other (and Boromir. Lots of sex for Boromir, please). I mean, they're canon!

2. Which pairing do you just not understand?

I'm not fond of that wording. "Which pairings do you not care about, even a little" I can go with, but "understand"... understand why people like them? Understand what the heck some folks are seeing? Sure, I think that while I'm looking at lists, archives, etc., but it's not really my business, is it? Not until I become Empress of Everything, that is.

But yeah, I don't get Chris/Vin, Gil/Greg, Aragorn/Legolas, Harry/Draco, Archer/Tucker, Duncan/Richie... hm, I'm sure there are others. It seems I have a "type" in the pairings I don't read, just like with the characters I love. I like to think I'm not predictable, but really, I am.

3. Which pairings were you initially against, but found yourself warming toward? (real and fake, any fandom)

Nothing comes to mind. I'm too stubborn. It would take an Act of Slashy God to lure me to the Chris/Vin side, and even that might not work.

Dude, I'm... mainstream. Relatively.

Last thought before I trip off to bed with Black Orchids (I'm still on my Nero Wolfe kick, but the heat will lure me over to Chandler soon, I think). I always take the Beatles for granted. They're The Beatles, after all. So vast and vital to the grand scheme of modern music that they're practically white noise. But aside from all that folderol, Abbey Road is one fabulous album. I always forget that because it's this huge thing, but it's also just a bunch of really good songs. I don't listen to it nearly often enough, and I forget how great it is.

With you right there with the Abbey Road love...

So--I take it the gummi worms didn't do the trick feedback-wise?

Uh oh. I take it you didn't get my email? Heck. I don't think I saved a copy for myself either. Naturally. Well, let me check when I get home- if nothing else, my hardcopy of the story is there and it has some notes on it. I should be able to reconstruct what I said, more or less. That's the biggest problem with my lousy memory- once it's written down, it's forgotten. But I know I made some notes at least. Sorry about that- I don't know where it went, since it didn't get bounced back to me.

Oh...grr, arrgh. (Frantically checking other mail box, praying I did not hit the shiny new AOL 8.0 "report spam" button by mistake--although if you headed the mail with anything FF or story-related I wouldn't have done that!) To be on the safe side, could you resend to my LJ screen name? HawkMoth7@aol.com. Sorry for any confusion!

Ah well, computers are evil. It must have gotten eaten. Attempt #2 has been zapped to you, so with any luck... I think I had one or two constructive-type comments in the first email, but they don't seem to have stuck in my memory, so they must not have been anything very dramatic. Mostly it's just "I like this" "I like that" blah blah blah. Hardly worth the wait, but oh well. It never hurts to get a compliment or two.
