Again, from the current Film Score Monthly, this time from Doug Adams's article on the score and interview with Howard Shore:

the lead-in is lots of talk about how compressed the albums are out of technological necessity and how much music is missing blah blah blah...

"Doug Adams: It really creates a need for the CD boxed set, because that's where you can really understand how everything comes together.

Howard Shore: Yes. That'll feel good to do that, too. And we'll have the rarities disc. Peter calls it the rarities- things that we tried."

and here's the background to that quote:

"In the interim Shore and Jackson discuss upcoming releases, including the CD boxed set. Shore wonders exactly how much music the set should offer. 'Everything!' suggests Jackson. 'And you should do a disc of rarities, things that we didn't use, the first take of the Fellowship theme, things like that.' Shore looks genuinely pleased by the notion."

Oh please, oh please let the suits cooperate!

And not happy ones (though I haven't confirmed them from another source yet, so...). Here's the post from the FFF, but the upshot is that the rumored score release has been shuffled to the bottom of the pile at Fox, and if it happens at all, it'll probably be as a series of downloads rather than a CD. It's all rumors of rumors at this point, so I don't know how upset to get, but it probably wouldn't hurt to drop Fox a line and let them know that there's interest in a CD release. Personally, I think Greg Edmonson's score was interesting, beautiful, and far more worthy of release than the bulk of the cinematic scores produced in the past few years, but I lack the necessary cash to bribe the right people. Pity.

Oh, and a meme nicked from [livejournal.com profile] cruisedirector and [livejournal.com profile] cortese- Put your username into the online dictionary at Merriam-Webster and see what it suggests. It seems that [livejournal.com profile] ealgylden (a perfectly fine English word. Not modern English, but...) gets one:

1. elegantly
2. algolagnia
3. Englished
4. illegalized
5. illegalize
6. algaecide
7. illegality
8. al-Ghazali
9. Anglican
10. algaecides

Well, not so much with #2, "a perversion (as sadism or masochism) characterized by pleasure and especially sexual gratification in inflicting or suffering pain." Oh dear. Apparently I'm not fond of the law or algae either. But at least I'm suave and, um, English. Okay then.

I knew I recognized Evil Cop Ex-Boyfriend in WaT last night, but I couldn't place him, and it's been bugging me all day (it's been a very quiet day). He was Bobby Beemer! From Grosse Point Blank! No wonder I couldn't buy him as a baddie- he's just a washed-up quarterback who writes poetry. Turns out I've seen Michael Cudlitz in a bunch of other things, too, (aw, "The Zeppo." I love that episode), but he'll always be Bobby Beemer to me.
