Well, it seemed a more appropriate subject line than "more spam," what with my current nautical bent and all. Wokka wokka. My last few posts have been rather bloggish, too. Meh, I'm too hot to think deep thoughts, and I'm distracted by the thought of "Victory for Humanity" on WaT tomorrow night (good case, as their cases go, but who cares? I'm in it for the 30 second D/M chat about vampires).

[livejournal.com profile] zortified has written Jack Sparrow/Bootstrap Bill slash, which makes me happy. The PotC sequel in my head is all about the adventures of Jack, Bill (miraculously not dead- come on, I'm a Boromir girl, this one's easy) and the Black Pearl. Those pretty, fiesty young'ns can come along too, but only if they don't distract me from Jack, Bill, and their "girl".

In a case of freaky timing, since I was just talking about this yesterday, Film Score Monthly has posted their review of PotC (with spoilers, obviously). And being the magazine they are, they naturally comment on the composer switch (from Silvestri to Badelt) that happened quite late in the game. The theory on the FSM boards at the time was... well, Andy sums it up pretty well: Although Alan Silvestri was announced as the film's composer, he apparently quit after arguing with the filmmakers over the direction of the score. After listening to the final soundtrack (credited to Badelt, "produced" by Zimmer, with a half-dozen composers receiving "Additional Music" credit), it's my guess that Silvestri exited after the film was extensively temp-tracked with "Gladiator" and other Media Ventures cues (and likely told them if they wanted that sound, to go and hire them).

So there's some geek-gossip for you. There's also a short, less enthusiastic review of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen on the page- btw, if you like the score for that movie and want the CD, Varese Sarabande is doing something rather strange with it. It isn't being released in the US, but it will be available through their website for a limited time. I guess they aren't expecting it to be a big seller, even though the movie has had the usual big marketing bonanza and it's a Trevor Jones score (one which I haven't heard, but he's generally reliable and sells fairly well).

Random amusing quote about what works in PotC, from Lileks: No wire-fu. When people have fights, they do not walk up walls or leap in the air and do a somersault; they stand there and hack at each other with pointed sticks, the way God and Douglas Fairbanks wanted them to do.

I have no idea if this thing still works, since the mere thought of playing it has my computer giving me an incredulous look, but supposedly here is a little movie trailer for Treasure Island, done with Playmobil figures. And here are some cute pirate cakes and things. You know, for kids! (sorry, I have a weakness for Hudsucker Proxy.)

Nothing to do with pirates, but here's an interview with Kevin Murphy, of MST3K fame (he was Tom Servo, my fave robot). The gimmick is that the site the interview was done for it The Empty Bowl, so the whole thing is about breakfast cereal. Keen.

And to end on a random note, last night I dreamed that I was holding in my hand a shiny new set of Magnificent Seven DVDs. The packaging was sepia-ish, with darker brown and red writing, and there were three discs, one with Chris/Buck/Vin, one with JD/Nathan/Josiah, and Ezra getting his own (since it was my subconscious designing it and all). But I woke up just as I was checking what the extras were. Stupid alarm. Still, it was a nice change from the things I've been dreaming about recently, sinking pirate ships and high SB/VM drama inspired by [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon and [livejournal.com profile] savageseraph's stressful, wonderful epistolary WIP. At least I didn't wake up thinking "nooooo!" Wait, yes I did.

Okay, time for pie. Every biting bug in three counties helped me pick berries for hours this morning, and now I'm itchy and exhausted, but I have pie. Mmmm.
