I could swear I've taken this before (nicked from [livejournal.com profile] cruisedirector this time). I vaguely remember getting Andy McNab and thinking "What the hell?" I must have been feeling violent and tortured that day. Since it's so obvious where each option comes from, it's kind of fun to pick answers randomly to see who carries the day, like, what will two Boromirs, one Mellors, one Sean Miller, one Partridge and two Alec Trevelyans equal? Oh. Um. Mmm. There's a thought...

What kind of Bean addict are you?

Hee! You've nailed it! What an angsty group, though. Pretty but stressful.

Huzzah for Sharpe!

We've been building up the DVD collection and it's fabulous to watch them again, and anticipate buying the ones we've never seen.

I got such a Firefly vibe from some of the episodes that I was inspired to write a FF story that incorporated some Sharpe elements.

Oh neat, so it's not just me getting some vibey moments. I wonder if Joss is a fan. It's such a great series (both are, that is).

Not one of the ones of the ones where you kill people, I hope? I have a folder of your fic saved and bookmarked, but I've been scared to read it yet because I know you pull no punches (not that that's bad, I'm just a wimp). Saving it for a sunny day when I need a good cry.

Umm, err...oh drat. My reputation precedes me! Considering the Sharpe-inspired fic takes place during the war, well, yes, there's death (but not for any majorr FF character, honest!). But there were reports of misty-eyed reactions. I'm operating on a loaner computer here, so I can't post a link, but the title is "Where I Cannot Stand." (It's linked from tara's cortex site.)

I can't help it! It's all Joss' fault--and, and, the terrifying space monkeys! I've never written so many fics in one fandom that lean so much towards angst-filled. Sigh. When ypu do work up the nerve to read any of 'em, I'd love to hear from you.

Hee! But in a good way, really. Well, aside from the killing thing, that is. I'm kidding, I've only heard positive things. And as long as the bodies in the Sharpe-influenced fic don't belong to Mal or Zoe, it's all good. A little angst is healthy, right? Particularly since I agree with you, this fandom really does lend itself to angst. I blame Mal. And Joss. And the spacemonkeys!

McNab?

Admittedly I'm on codeine for a wrenched back (not badly wrenched since the codeine is working), but I seem to read into your post that Sean Bean played Andy McNab at some point. WHEN? WHERE? I'll confess to liking McNab's fiction, and have been fascinated by the various versions of Bravo Two Zero. Add my long-running "thing" for Sean Bean, and ... well ...

Only caught one Sharp's on Bravo once, but liked it.

Oh dear, that's awful! Are you going to be okay?

Sean did indeed play McNab in a version of Bravo Two Zero that came out in 1999 or so (Compleat Sean Bean (http://www.compleatseanbean.com/bravo.html) has some pics and info and stuff). The only time I saw it I was really out of it (turned out I had pneumonia, but we didn't know that at the time), but what I got of it was pretty good. Violent, of course, and hard to watch at times (unless you're delirious, which makes torture fun), but well acted. It was nice to see Sean as something other than "Evil, Doomed Guy" or "Sexy, Naked, Wrong-Choice Guy", too (though there's nothing wrong with either of those). It's still in print, too, which makes it easier to find. Sharpe's, now, is a major addiction of mine (Hornblower on land, how could I resist?). I have some old, fuzzy, taped-off-PBS copies of most of the series, but one of these days I'll sell a kidney or something and get the whole shebang on DVD.

I was dumb and lifted something with my body twisted sideways. Always a stupid thing to do, but especially once past 40. The codeine and lying on the floor doing the back stretching exercises from two previous bouts of physical therapy post-car accidents took care of it. Thanks.

Cool! on Bravo Two Zero. Problem is, I don't think it's available here. I support copyright laws as a writer, but I hate the licensing agreement part that allows some things in some countries and not others. Hugh Jackman in Oklahoma is available on DVD in Australia, for example, but not Region 1 DVDs.

I do intend to get Hornblower on DVD eventually too. :-) In fact I was one of the essay winners on the A&E site, winning a signed photo of Jamie Bambur, which since it wasn't Ioan, I promptly sold off on ebay.

Sympathies on the past pneumonia. Been there, done that, still have pneumonia-induced asthma that hits on occasion requiring my ibuterol inhaler.
