Have you ever found a favorite author on LJ and then really wished you hadn't? You think, "Yay! Now I can read all of BlahBlah's thoughts on how slashy Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were, and how they're the great, tragic pairing of the Founding Fathers!" And then your read her LJ, and it turns out she thinks all pastries should be banned because they make people fat, and she doesn't believe in rights for tropical fish, and she's a fundamentalist Zoroastrian (do they even have those?), and all this unfortunate new knowledge colors your reading of her fic? I hate it when that happens. It's better for me not to know, really.

It's not any of you, of course. You're all wonderful. And I wouldn't talk about you behind your backs out where you can see me, and beat me up- I can be petty and mean, but I'm not stupid.

*~*~*~*~*

I was going to have myself a Dominic Keating (Malcolm Reed on Enterprise) mini-marathon, just for the heck of it. So I piled up all my DK tapes, excluding Enterprise because that would make my marathon no longer mini, and took stock. DK tapes I own include: BtVS "Helpless," Inspector Morse "Dead on Time," the pilot ep of The Immortal, half of G vs. E "Orange Volvo," an ep of "Love Street," and the complete Zalman King's ChromiumBlue.com.

So... one great episode of a great genre show, one ep of a mystery I've never cared for, half of an okay genre show, a genre show that's horrible even by my very low standards, and two soft-core porn shows. Hm. You know, this mini-marathon may not be a good idea. That's a lot of bad TV at once. I don't think I'm ready. Maybe I should just do a Firefly marathon instead, and finally do something with my various scattered thoughts on food in that show. Or maybe I should finally (finally!) hook up the DVD player and watch FotR for the first time in months. Might be a good idea, that.

Or, more likely, I'll dither around all day deciding what to do, and not do any of it. Yeah, that sounds about right. I really should pull together my food thoughts, though, if only to have a non-spammy post for once.

Eee! A Malcolm-fest! I can't stand him on Enterprise except when I'm slashing him past the point of recognizability, so I suppose that to be fair to poor Dominic, I should watch something else that he's done. *G*

Hee! You know, I thought of you when I was typing that, since I know you're... not a fan of the character, shall we say? He's my favorite, though. The only thing about him that annoys me is all that "Malcolm's straight! Really, really straight!" that TPTB feel compelled to do every so often, and even though it's on-screen and I know I have to accept it as canon, I just can't. It always seems so OOC the way they do it. I'm thoroughly unconvinced, not the least because DK, who I think is spot-on in his acting all the rest of the time, is not very convincing in those scenes (though with some of that writing, who would be). He always seems to me to be playing it as if Malcolm doesn't entirely believe it either, but really wants to. So I just chalk it up to the poor boy over-compensating, because admitting that he wants to pounce on Trip's shapely bum and not T'pol's would be just one rebellion too many for his poor family-issue-filled brain. Poor messed-up fella. No wonder he likes blowing things up.

You should see DK play a bad guy though. So creepy, even in a crap show like The Immortal. It's almost enough to make me want a Mirrorverse episode, so we can get Evil Goatee-Wearing Malcolm (almost. I just know Bermaga would screw it up).

You know I agree with this read on Malcolm's sexuality (look, it's HappyHeterosexual!Malcolm again!), and I universally loved the look of everyone in the Mirrorverse on DS9 even when I thought their characters were silly (and how many of them were gay?!) Though I don't really see how they could have Enterprise in the a/u without Kirk knowing about it...oh wait, Enterprise has done ALL KINDS of things Kirk should have known about! LOL!

Seriously, poor Kirk! Didn't his bosses tell him anything? Or were they so embarrassed by Archer and co. that they suppressed all records of their actions? Hey, actually that could be it...

Mysterious Future Guy IS Kirk, don't you think? He's come back in time to wipe Archer out of existence so he can be the one and only!

All my years in fandom had already warped it for me from the first time I saw it. "Look! They're sniping! Sniping means love!"
