Didn't get to see Finding Nemo yesterday like I had planned, so instead I drowned my sorrows in buying too many magazines. But that was even better than the movie, actually, because the June issue of Cult Times has an interview with Gina Torres, talking about Firefly, Angel, Matrix, Alias and just about everything else she's done recently (also- heads up, [livejournal.com profile] taraljc- an interview with Allison Mack. I'm sure you already know about it, and it probably isn't anything new anyway, but just in case...). Man, I love Gina. If it turns out that she really is an all-powerful goddess-type who gives happiness in exchange for some people-eating, you know, I'd be okay with that. She says nice things about the fabulous Firefly cast and mean things about Fox, and says that working on the show was "a love fest". Aw. Oh, and there's also a little "instant Guide to Firefly" thingie in this issue. Neato.

"I think history will prove that we were far ahead of the curve, and that Fox made a mistake." You said it, sister.

And nicked this from [livejournal.com profile] cruisedirector. Hard not to cheat on this one, but I don't care. It's Dennis Moore! Your lupines, or your life!:

I expected the Fish Dance instead I got what no one expects. :-) Cool quiz!

And I think it's neat that Gina Torres and Laurence Fishburn are now married. But I even liked "Cleopatra 2525."

Hey, I thought I was the only one who liked that show! I mean, it wasn't good, but it could be fun. But then I'm somewhat notorious for liking bad-but-fun TV. Relic Hunter, First Wave, Queen of Swords (especially QoS)... I've watched 'em all, and had fun doing it.

Yes!! Of course Peter Wingfield's presence didn't hurt. :-) First Wave I watched occasionally, but sometimes the writing made me wince too much. That's the one with Traci Lords, the final season, yes, not the one with Eric Close?

Relic Hunter is fun too. :-) Though I liked Claudia better as the assistant. She was wonderful!

It's really erratic on quality, but I'm trying to catch Adventure Inc. because of Biehn, and the fact that the series was cancelled already.

Then there's an Australian kid's series I've become awfully fond of -- Pirates Island. Caught it a couple of weeks ago when they repeated the first episode on Fox Saturday Morning, and it's wonderful! So each Saturday I tape that and the Chicago feed of Adventure Inc which is on right after, to enjoy after I eventually get up.

Mmm, Peter Wingfield. Doesn't matter what the show/movie is or how lame, if PW's in it, I'm there. And I was predisposed to like QoS anyway- I've always been a Zorro fan, and it had swords, horses, snazzy period costumes, Peter Wingfield and Val Pelka. The fact that it was actually a fun show was just gravy.

First Wave was lousy ("I must fight aliens! But first, let me wait around while this sexy alien babe takes a shower." sheesh), but Sebastian Spence was pretty so I watched it anyway. And yup, that was the one with Traci as Raven the big ole Mary Sue. Still, it was good cheesy fun. And PW was in that too! He's guest-starred on just about every genre show ever filmed in Vancouver. Too bad Relic Hunter was done in Toronto- part of it was filmed at the college where I lived when I was doing my MA, and maybe I could have met him. Oh well. As it was, the closest I got to any of the cast was finding that Tia Carrere went to my usual sushi bar one weekend when I was out of town, darn it. And one of my friends met Lindy Booth, who apparently is very sweet and funny.

Eric Close- Dark Skies or Now and Again? DS was the Kennedy-era X-Files and N&A was the Six Billion Dollar Man. I liked both. What is it with scifi shows getting cancelled after a year, though? Hardly seems fair.

I've never gotten to see Adventure Inc., and I haven't heard good things. Poor Michael Biehn- he deserved a better show. Maybe next time. Maybe he could do one filmed in Vancouver, and Peter Wingfield could be in it...

Eric Close- Dark Skies or Now and Again?

Definitely Now and Again. I adored that show. Always liked Margaret Colin, which was my primary reason for watching initially, but then add Eric Close and Dennis Haysbert? Wow. And total cliffhanger ending. *sigh*

Close is one of the reasons I really like Without a Trace, beyond it being a terrific show in a great time slot for me. I'm so glad it got picked up.

[livejournal.com profile] declineandfall will testify that when I first saw Wingfield in X-Men 2, I actually gasped out loud. Did not expect it! Damn but the camera loves him. :-)

Currently have him as Death as my wallpaper. Went for literally years with the same image of Nick Lea on the screen, and since hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] declineandfall I've been changing it almost weekly.

Yeah, just can't recommend Adventure Inc. despite it's genetics. Exec producer Gale Anne Hurd, which should say good things about it, but it's so uneven and sometimes painful to watch. I put part of the blame on the direction, and part of it on being a French co-production. This time it isn't working at all to have it be so international. It could have been a terrific series.

That cliffhanger ending on Now and Again was evil. Stupid CBS. It was cruel of them to cancel it and leave us hanging like that. At least Haysbert and Close went on to more successful shows (I have no idea what Margaret Colin is doing these days. Too bad, I really like her). Poor Eric Close must have been feeling like a Jonah. And I agree completely on WaT- I wasn't expecting to like it, since it's not my usual thing, but I'm glad I watched it anyway. What a pleasant surprise.

I knew PW was going to be in X2 ahead of time, thanks to my various Highlander lists, and I drove everyone nuts beforehand. My friends were all excited to see Wolverine, Rogue, Magneto, etc. again, and here's me, managing to work "Cannon Fodder with Lines #2" into every pre-opening conversation about the movie. But hey, he's worth it. ;)

Currently have him as Death as my wallpaper.

Hey, me too! Well, sort of. It's a cartoon version (http://members.aol.com/bizarro7/beatings.htm), actually. I had a lovely Mucha-esque drawing of Boromir up for ages, but this one made me giggle.

Mm, Nick Lea. How come I never met any of these good looking Canadians when I was living there? Hardly seems fair.

I had been hoping for an MoW to conclude Now and Again but it's now obvious that isn't going to happen.

Yeah, have to check imdb.com for what Margaret Colin is doing now. Ah, she was in the Adrian Lyne movie Unfaithful which stared Diane Lane and Richard Gere. Plus an Australia movie that came out in the states on DVD, and other stuff. So she's still working at least.

It was nice being surprised by Wingfield in X-Men 2. He sure got a lot of close-ups for such a bit part. :-)

GREAT cartoon. Thanks!! Very much like Phil Foglio's style, to my eye. He did all the Phil and Dixie strips for Dragon magazine, plus Xxxenophile.

Well, Nick's a Vancouverite. Of course my sister lives there and never sees these guys either. :-)

At one point, speaking of favorite Canadian actors, I heard of Nick Lea, Eric McCormack (back in his Lonesome Dove days, pre-Will & Grace, and Pyper-Ferguson, all sitting in an L.A. bar together. Talk about male pulchritude! Of course 13 years in L.A. and I never saw any of them. Lots of others, yes. And now I'll only see them by accident while they're golfing here or filming a Western.
