Seven Random Thingies

1.) Every time I see the commercial for this week's Joan, I think, "Eek! Frank Whaley! Run, Joan, run! He's going to lurk creepily and not be all that helpful at you!" The thought of a JoA/Dead Zone shared universe is fairly wacky, but fun. I'd hate to inflict Kevin on poor Bruce, but the thought of Will and Walt doing the manly cop-bonding thing is terribly cute. Sarah and Helen, not so much. Helen really needs more friends (aside from Lilly), but I don't think she and Sarah would mesh all that well.


2.) Netflix has the new, really good Little House on the Prairie miniseries on their "sometime in the future, but don't start holding your breath just yet" list. I've been hunting, but so far I haven't found any release info. Even so, I'm going to take that as a good omen. Come to me, shiny DVDs!

3.) It's utterly impossible for me to imagine living in a world where I haven't always known the spoilery twist endings to movies like Citizen Kane, Planet of the Apes, or Soylent Green. I've tried, I really have. But they were already punch lines when I was born, and I can't imagine what it would be like to have seen them without that baggage. Which isn't a bad thing, really, just a... thing.

4.) Those Darth M&Ms are evilly addictive. I definitely need to stock up before they vanish. They're pretty, too. *g* In other Star Wars blather, FSM has something rather interesting today: Doug Adams (of the forthcoming book on the LotR scores) and the Kaplans sharing their first listening responses to the Revenge of the Sith score. OooOOOooh. Spoilery, of course. I haven't heard a note of this yet, so it's interesting to see what established themes they've picked out so far. They're funny, too. I get a kick out of quotes like, "It sounds like an evil version of one of his Olympic pieces" and "AK: Robots are odd so they have odd meters. JK: I think it's because Grievous is from Isengard." Hee! My favorite quote, though, is definitely Jon Kaplan's, "We would like to welcome someone very special to the Star Wars universe. A very special friend that you might know: Moaning Woman!" Ha! And arrrrgh. Every score in the world these days... which reminds me, I never ranted about Horner's Troy score, did I? Eh, some other time.


5.) Something about the ads for Hitchhiker's Guide reminds me really strongly of 5th Element. I don't know how I feel about that.

6.) So I've been following Spielberg's next gigundo television project, Into the West, for a while now, thanks to a great (if slightly odd) cast and a subject that interests me. Well, happily it has a website now, which makes things much easier. The gallery's small but growing, and some of the images there already are quite nice. Plus, there are a couple of pictures of Skeet up, looking rather furry. In a frontier sort of way. Heh. Anyway! I've been bopping around the cast/crew section, figuring out who's related to whom, and it's a trip and a half. So Matthew Settle/John Terry marries Tonantzin Carmelo/Sheila Tousey (yay!), and their kids are Tyler Christopher (who did a not-horrible episode of the 2002 Twilight Zone), Christian Kane and Irene Bedard? Ha! And Skeet and Alan Tudyk are Settle/Terry's brothers, so you've got a gene pool that somehow produces Skeet Ulrich, Alan Tudyk, Christian Kane and Irene Bedard. I could maybe buy Bedard and Sheila Tousey being related, but the rest is just... neat! I'm really looking forward to this, or to the DVD of this, since it'll be on TNT. So much the better, though- no annoying commercials. Keen. Just a few months more to wait.


7.) Who knew Michael Palin was so popular?

I thought it would be impossible for anyone in today's society to not know these things but twice I apparently made faux pas with my now ex-husband who was from Belgium. "I'm going offline for a bit to see Soylent Green" he typed to me once via the IRC. Of course I'm going to type "SOYLENT GREEN IS..." you fill in the rest. He totally freaked on me. I don't even want to recount his bitchfest for Citizen Kane. *sigh* So, yes, I was once in that blissfully unaware state of knowing the end of every classic and thinking everyone else did too. Of course, he IS Belgian.

Wow, seriously? Being from Belgium is a good excuse (all things considered *g*), but that makes him only the second adult I've known or known of who hadn't been spoiled for it. Kind of impressive, in its way. You have my sympathies on his spoiler-freakout, definitely- the odds were heavily in your favor there.

Sad thing is, I have no idea. They keep mentioning it in FSM, and I keep checking Amazon and TORn, but if anyone has mentioned a date yet, I've missed it. I hate waiting. *pout*

Hee, he is a cute little bugger, isn't he? And I've heartily enjoyed all the travel shows and books he's been coming out with in recent years. As second careers go, that's a good one.

Argh, how frustrating. If they're going to keep dangling the idea of it in front of us, they should at least have the decency to tell us when it will be available. How else do they expect us to buy the dashed thing?

*nods* I agree! Traveling around the world and getting to talk about it on tv and be funny while doing it seems like a dream job :)

I wish I knew more about music so that I could really appreciate the Sith score review. It's reads quite well, but I'm missing some of the jokes and the critique.

But I'm pretty bad at aural recall even though I've got excellent hearing; I just don't process my memories through sound very clearly at all.

I'll be looking forward to your own posting on the score, as your comments on the RotK score really helped me pay attention to it, and understand some of what Howard Shore was doing there.

Gosh, thank you. That's really nice to hear. I'm looking forward to this score quite a bit (though I was always more of an Indy girl than a SW one *g*), but it's strange to think it'll be the last real SW score we'll get. Should be some interesting commentary out there once the score geeks get their ears on it, or so I hope.
