Yesterday's giddiness over the Rosencrantz & Guildenstern announcement hasn't even had time to wear off yet, and I'm hit with this: the complete Reilly, Ace of Spies on DVD in February! I'm torn between another round of gleeful shrieking and some preemptive grieving over the state of my wallet. Argh, I've run out of spare organs I can sell. But it's Reilly... As a wise woman once said, "What is it about Sam Neill that's just so yummy?" I can't resist this particular temptation.

I wish I had some way to post scans from this "Young Romance" comic from 1974 I've just acquired; it's really quite something. At least I can show you the cover, since Mike at Progressive Ruin posted it months ago- check it out (you might have to scroll down a smidge). I have a fatal weakness for romance comics anyway- the more dated and appalling, the more irresistible- but this one looks like it might be the new jewel of my collection. Liz isn't interested in boys? Oh yes, we know what that means. Ow, I'm wincing already. If it's good (which is to say, if it's bad), I'll share. Assuming I'm still able to type after jamming icepicks into my eyes, of course.

I'm not quite clear on why Martin Landau's wasted, hammy guest appearance on Without a Trace last year was nominated for an Emmy, but Jerry O'Connell didn't even get a "What to Watch" nod from TV Guide. I assume it was a matter of one being Martin Landau and the other Jerry O'Connell. What a shame, because he's just so good in this episode. Poor Jerry. It's also a shame to see how good Season Two, itself a pale shadow of Season One, looks in comparison to the current episodes. As frustrating as Joan of Arcadia has been this year, it's not even close to the disappointment of Without a Trace. No wonder NCIS has been steadily winning me away.

Heeeeee! Must check Reilly out, it looks fabulous. (I think I'm gonna have to cave and start the Sam Neill marathon tonight instead of tomorrow. *vbg* Though I really should be good and work on my very much not very started at all [livejournal.com profile] yuletide story!)

Very much with you re: WaT; JO'C's performance was amazing, and ML was completely wasted and the role was amazingly boring. :( I'm about three weeks behind on WaT right now 'cuz I just can't seem to make myself care about it any more. *sigh* I hate it when good shows not only go bad, but crash and burn and take out the whole planet along with them.

Hee, your timing on that comment was perfect! I saw your post right when I signed on to post about Reilly- it was, like, cosmic, dude. ;) And the show's totally worth a watch, if only for young, slightly scary, very gorgeous, very proto-James-Bondian Sam Neill. *g* I mean, the rest of it is good too, but it's very much SN's show. Which gets no complaints from me.

JO'C's performance was amazing, and ML was completely wasted and the role was amazingly boring.

ITA and ITA. There was so much build up for ML's appearance that I was expecting something interesting and dramatic and touching... and what we got was so disappointing. Drab writing, drab acting, nothing that couldn't have been done by any hack actor on any generic show. And more Jack-angst, because that's always such a good thing. rolls eyes. It just seemed wasteful. And then there's Jerry, who acts his little heart out (and kept making me think, oh no, Woody's snapped! Poor baby! Well, now he'll have a chance at Lily, if not so much Jordan *bg*), and who gets no glory. If I do buy S2, this episode will be one of the few reasons why. Poor, poor Jerry.

Dude, no kidding. It's moved from "watched with bated breath" to "have on in the background while reading LJ, because finding a CD to put in seems like work." All that brilliant S1 potential, Etch-A-Sketched away in favor of boring cases and soap opera melodrama. It's practically criminal! And yet the ratings are great, because people's tastes are very odd, so TPTB pat themselves on the back. Tragic. So tragic.

(yay, Yuletide! Must finish watching episodes... *g*)

Every time I think of Martin Landau, the first role that pops into my head is the extremely cheesy guest-star bit he did on Man from UNCLE, as that vampirish THRUSH agent who wanted to take over the world using bats.

NCIS is just so much more fun than WaT, now. And it has Ducky! Hard to compete with that, really.

Heeeeeee! Oh man, what was up with that episode? There aren't words for that level of cheese. But hey, ML sure seemed to be having fun, sinking his fangs into all the scenery. But the cape! And the bats! Those writers were insane. Illya and Napoleon had a couple of good moments, though, so I forgive them. Sort of. Bats! *g*

Exactly! Nothing can defeat Ducky's dimples. And I'm perfectly happy to listen to his stories, even if Gibbs isn't. WaT is painful these days, and CSI is frustrating, so no wonder NCIS is taking over the crime show part of my brain. At least that show's still fun!

Oh, I wanted to mention- I taped the WaT with Jerry O'C and David Hewlett (finally, after forgetting the first ten times it was repeated), if you want to see it. I'm planning to tape tomorrow's NCIS on the same tape (Tony in peril! Oh no! Tony with stubble! Oh yes!), but after that, I could toss it in the mail whenever. Which reminds me, I need to do Christmas cards. sigh. Well, at least it's still December, right? *g*

I just love that ep! So cheesetastic, with the cape and the dramatics and the maniacal laughter. And then there's that marvelous scene where Napoleon shows up to rescue Illya - he stands behind Illya, who is bent forward over a table, and grips Illya's arms. I swear, it looks exactly like I'm sure you're imagining ;)

Oooh, you taped it? I would definitely like to see it. *gloms* Thank you! Let me know if there's anything I can send you :)
