I was going to get the special edition, and at the last minute I decided not to. I forget why, something dumb and shortsighted probably, like I decided to wait for a complete release from all three movies which might not even happen, or something. They did have several copies of the special edition at one of the stores (and a couple of the three-CD sets), though, so if I can't find a good cover (Theoden would be great), I'll probably end up getting it anyway.
