Well thank you! It's certainly not a "historians only" approach, as I'm sure you know - I just use that as my excuse. It can be lots of fun, too- "Oh, well, I'm a historian, so I know Gregory of Tours did such-and-such in his treatment of Brunhild and Fredegund in The History of the Franks, and that's why I have no problem with Peter Jackson sending Aragorn flying off a cliff." Either people say "hm, okay, I can see that," or they leave and stop bothering you.
