I can't really tell if CSI and WaT were less involving than usual, or if I'm just tired. I'm not even going to bother turning my viewing notes into paragraphs or anything. I'm that unmotivated. I think I'm actually looking forward to the post-sweeps hiatus for these two (though not for Joan).

After The Show

What was that pretty fountain thing in the teaser? It's probably part of some tacky mega-hotel, but it was really pretty, all lighted up like that.

I had no idea Martin Donovan could be so creepy. Wow. shudder

Hey, Nick just called Brass "Jim"! It got his attention, and I love Nick/Brass scenes, but that was weird. I liked the Max Headroom-esque "the world is watching" bit, though.

Brass is scary when he's doing an interrogation mad. I'd be confessing everything right back to stealing a pack of bubble gum as a kindergartner if confronted with angry!Brass.

Nick has a good eye for women's toiletries to notice that none of Julie Waters's seemed to be missing. Must be all those sisters.

Funny that Sara deals more politely with a whacked-out murder suspect than with Missing Slacker Guy's dad a few weeks back. I bet Brass had already used up the department's quote of "bad cop" vibes for the month, so she was stuck with the "good cop" ones. And poor Sara, not being "the pretty one." Aw. That hurts.

the little territorial spat between Nick/Sara and Catherine- Grissom dealt with that poorly, I thought. He's fond of that "let them snipe at each other while frowning, and when the dust settles, the problem's solved" leadership style, but I'm surprised it hasn't occurred to him that that's not a great choice with the amount of tension within the team these days. It only exacerbates things. Not a happy scene.

Hey, Sheriff Xander dissed Greg! Death! Death to Sheriff Xander!

It was nice to see Greg looking out for his guy. Funny that he mentioned Sara being ticked but not Nick- I imagine it's pretty easy to tell when Sara's unhappy, but is he just going with the assumption that since Nick's easy-going and doesn't really hold grudges, he's over it? Because he looked pretty ticked back when Catherine took over the case. Or have they talked about it already, once Nick got back to the labs? Or he just being sweet and hoping for the best?

Nick's reaction to hearing that Greg was now on the case was interesting. If they did talk about it, the plan apparently didn't include getting Greg quite that involved. He was pretty taken aback at first, though then he got it together enough to stick up for his guy, and even did a little training with him at the crime scene. Aw. Okay, the rest of the team was there too, but one can't have everything. You know, sometimes I wonder what this show looks like to people who don't see Nick/Greg. Hm.

These people never sleep. They work 24-7 (except Warrick, I guess). They must be zombies or something.

It seems like at least half of Archie's scene are with Nick. Too much cute in one place. And they're both so obedient- when Catherine told them to take a break, they just went quietly. Even Archie, so he must trust his shiny scary computer will be safe in Catherine's clutches.

Gil called Catherine "Cath"? What is this, Nickname Night? Too bad Warrick wasn't around to be called "Rick."

Trip Box

Oh stellar, the previouslies are all Martin-trauma and Viv-deception. That bodes well.

Jack is very pro-firefighter. Professional courtesy or something personal? Are we going to get a big dramatic Jack-ep about some tragic firefighter in his life, just in time for May sweeps?

Hey, Missing Firefighter is the late, hot Det. Lockwood! Cool! I bet he's dead. This guy plays guys who end up dead pretty often.

Oh dear, guilty looks from Martin and Viv as Jack talks about secrets within departments. Martin can't lie to save his life. That's no good. Viv, on the other hand, has that scary "question me and I will smack you down hard" thing going on, so she's good at it.

I'm torn on the Martin/Viv fight over who'll be the fall guy if the whole mess comes out. Viv is a woman and a minority and doesn't enjoy the protection of family members in positions of power, but Martin already has one major black mark on his record from the Anwar Samir case, there are a lot of people who'd like to make an example of a golden boy like him, he's made it clear to his father that he doesn't want to be protected, and his father has more or less agreed to that (by "handing him over" to Jack at the end of AYNOHYEB)- how much Victor sticks to that or doesn't remains to be seen, but as it stands now, they both really screwed up and I think they're in nearly equally precarious positions. Overall this plotline seems like a rerun of AYNOHYEB with a touch of "The Bus" (and hey, is Sam still in therapy?), plus bonus Viv screentime and even more Martin angst than usual. I'm not thrilled. I hope it won't get dragged out too long, and won't result in the loss of either character.

So this fire investigator is Danny's love interest? Maria Menounos from ET. Goody. Hm. I'm not impressed so far, but we'll see.

Jack and Sam have been working together really well recently, and they haven't been doing that annoying pining for each other. It's nice. Keep up the professionalism, guys, and don't touch, gaze, long, linger or otherwise slip back into "tormented ex-lovers land," and we'll be good. And Jack, wash your hair.

Okay, I really do not want to die of "broken bottle to the jugular." Owwww.

This was not a cheerful night of television.

Here's a tiny blurb on on Maria Menounos on WaT (wee spoilers for "Trip Box" only). Apparently Enrique suggested her. Hm.
