Oddly enough, this article makes me feel *better* about the movie in a lot of ways. I want them to be true to the books, but I also want the movie to be good and to do well, and I understand that liberties may have to be taken.

Me too. I'd rather have a movie that changes some elements but doesn't betray the spirit of the book, than something that's correct on all points but never comes to life. That's why, for me, the LotR movies have been more satisfying than the Harry Potter movies- they're more actual movies than "books on film". And it sounds like this one is heading for the former path (I hope I hope). And I agree on the looks vs. characterization thing too- it helps that I don't necessarily have clear pictures of everyone in my head to begin with, but the important thing is that they feel right, and that the actors and crew actually care about getting that right. Seems like Russell's trying hard, at least, so I hope he succeeds. But I wish someone would interview Paul Bettany (especially since Stephen's my favorite). I'm all curious now.

Hee! Yay for nautical jargon! It just wouldn't be the same without it. :)
