The show is Without a Trace, and it's on after CSI on CBS (so, 10pm Thursdays). It's also my favorite new show from last season (not counting my beloved, departed Firefly). It's about a team of FBI agents (http://www.barrettcorner.com/close/photos/ecbc722.jpg) in NYC who work in Missing Persons- Martin Fitzgerald (http://www.barrettcorner.com/close/photos/ecbc721.jpg) (Eric Close) is the new guy, a transfer from white-collar crime, and Danny Taylor (http://www.barrettcorner.com/wat/graphics/wat2.jpg) (Enrique Murciano) is his sexy lover, I mean, best friend and teammate. Eventually. They started out sniping at each other, as young guys jockeying for position on a team are wont to do. The other team members are Jack Malone (Anthony LaPaglia), their angsty, rule-breaking boss, Vivian Johnson (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), the smart, dryly funny 2IC (she's awesome, I love Viv), and Samantha "Sam" Spade (Poppy Montgomery), who's also smart (of course, they all are) but is young, beautiful, troubled, and angry as well. I'm not always a big fan of Sam, since she has a real chip on her shoulder, but she's an interesting, complex character. And I like her name. Heh.
And Danny and Martin are so in love. I'm always amazed at how slashy this show is, considering that it's a mainstream law-enforcement drama (and it's an excellent one by any standard, even without the wonderful slashiness). They sizzle with chemistry. Oh, TPB try to convince us that Martin has a little crush on Sam by having him half-heartedly flirt with her occasionally, but then they wreck it by having he and Danny smile fondly, gaze longingly, touch each other and generally act a hundred times happier and more comfortable around each other than anyone else. Because they're friends and coworkers. Not because they're thoroughly smitten with each other, oh no. ;) And conversations like this one (http://www.livejournal.com/users/ealgylden/11294.html) are perfectly normal between friends and coworkers who aren't smitten (the team was being investigated by IA and thought they might get fired- CBS hasn't repeated that episode yet, so I still don't have it on tape, grr). I have a number of the episodes on tape, if you'd like to see some of the slashy goodness. Just say the word.
Jack/Danny? I'm getting Stargate flashbacks now *g* Can I handle two OTPs with the same names? Heh.
Nah, you're safe. While Stargate Jack/Danny are perfect for each other and will live happily ever after (hey, I'm a romantic), on WaT it's definitely Danny/Martin. There are people who slash Jack- we call them crazy people. ;) He's very straight. But, and here's a funny Stargate coincidence for you, Jack and Sam are a canonical couple, of sorts- he's married (and her boss), but they had an affair at some point in the past and aren't really over it yet.
Wow, sorry, that's a really long answer to your wee little question. I just love talking about this show! :)
