Poppy Montgomery talks a bit about *that spoiler* for next season's WaT (there's some 24 stuff on the page too, if you watch that).
I really, really hate this development. I thought Sam was smarter than this! Okay, you're upset that your affair with your coworker (your boss!) has ended, so you start something with another coworker? Yeah, that'll make for a pleasant working environment. It's slightly reassuring that it doesn't sound like Poppy knows just how this twist will play out yet, but since she's not saying "Oh no, this love triangle thing was just a silly rumor. We're not planning anything like that," I can't be all that pleased yet.
I hate this. I hate love geometry, I hate infidelity, I hate that there's a really good chance Martin's going to get hurt. Badly. I don't want this.
The revelation of the affair really wounded my opinion of both Sam and Jack last season, and they were already my least favorites on the team (I love both actors and think they're amazingly talented, but I've just never warmed up to these particular characters). It was bad enough when I thought Sam was probably in love with Jack and Jack knew it and didn't know what to do (shades of Gil/Sara, which I also hate), but to find out that yes, they actually had the affair instead of just thinking about it, well, that tore it for me.
(Strong personal opinion coming- Sam/Jack shippers, duck!) Infidelity is my cardinal deadly sin (not for personal reasons- the person who cheated on me wouldn't live to regret it, and I doubt I'd have a computer in prison). You don't cheat on your loved ones. You just don't. If you've made vows to them (marriage or just basic "we're in a relationship- I won't be dishonest with you" stuff), you honor those vows. They matter. And if you're feeling constricted, if your marriage is failing (it happens, I do understand, really I do), if you want someone other than your partner, you need to get released from those vows first. Break up. Get divorced. Or do without. But you don't betray those vows.
My respect for Sam and Jack was really damaged by that plot twist, and I'm not sure how the show can fix it. Not that it matters, since it doesn't look like anything will change for the better anyway... sigh. My show! My beautiful show!
Also, gossip from the new EW- "Abandon Pictures reportedly plans to turn the comic strip Hagar the Horrible into a live-action feature..." What was I just saying about the lack of good Viking movies? Um, this isn't quite what I meant.
