Zooming past the computer, RotK EE in hand

It's here, it's here, it's here! Huzzah! I have no idea when I'll have a spare four hours to watch it, but at least there's now the possibility, and the weekend is not far away. Hours and hours of Rohirrim! O frabjous day! Aw, even the box is pretty. Happy happy blue blue... okay, possibly I'm a little giddy.

Oh, and Attila also arrived, so I have sexy, shaggy Gerard at last. Heh. No, today's mail didn't scream, "I'm a huge geek!" or anything, did it?

Very quick comment on the S9 Stargate casting spoiler nicked from, like, everyone: Personally, I would have been much, much happier if they had cast Adam Baldwin. Ben Browder's a good enough actor, though I'm not as impressed as many and I've never clicked with Farscape (and have given up both the effort and the desire to do so, so please, no more conversion attempts), but I can't quite picture him on SG-1, and not just because he's physically so close to Michael Shanks's type. He seems an odd fit, somehow. Actually, this news just makes me nervous about Shanks himself- is he confirmed as returning yet? Hm. I was never sold on the idea of S9 in the first place, and the few hints we've heard aren't making me less leery. And I say that as someone who thinks the show can survive without RDA.

Okay, off into the cold to buy art paper.

I just can't see it. Admittedly we know nothing about the character yet, but based on the other roles I've seen Browder in and on his own personality (or at least public persona), I can't picture him in the SG universe. It's... weird. And I fear the dynamic changes. Sure, I'm primarily a Daniel fan, but Daniel-in-the-context-of-his-team, not Daniel, some of his team, and some random folks. SG-1 isn't very well designed for main character cast changes. Poor, hapless Jonas could testify to that.

Also: we hatesss you, Sci-Fi, for killing Farscape after four seasons and forcing its lead to recycle himself on your other show!

That's the other big problem I have with this. Sure, Farscape and I couldn't make it work, but I know how devoted 'Scapers are. Y'all are passionate. And for them to jerk you around like that and then say, "But look! We've rescued Claudia and Ben from that other show and are putting them on our favorite! Aren't you happy now?" is dirty pool. I hope Farscape fans who've never watched SG-1 don't tune in expecting anything like their lost show, because ouch, big disappointment.

I do have to hand it to the SciFi promo guys, though. The giddy squeeing over Browder has hushed the rumbles of "What? No Jack?" For now, anyway.
